Activities at Westlake House Care Home
Residents enjoy playing hoopla and bocce bowls, which combine exercise with the thrill of competitive sport. We invite entertainers and musicians to visit the home on a regular basis and residents very much enjoy watching them perform.
We also have our pet therapy dog, Marley, visit the home on a fortnightly basis, and residents love petting him. They also enjoy health and fitness days, where they get the opportunity to participate in armchair exercises and target games.
We always celebrate National Volunteer Week, which we use as a chance to say thank you for the wonderful work that our volunteers do that further enhances the quality of life for those who live at Westlake.
As well as continuing with our favourite activities, such as arts & crafts, bingo, knit & natter, Scrabble, board games, bridge, quizzes, pampers & manicures, reminiscence sessions and musical memories, we always like to launch new activities for residents, which give them the opportunity to socialise with their friends and families. These could be our own vegetable patches, flower arranging sessions, a book club or anything else that our imaginations conjure up.
Rosie Duhig
I joined the Barchester family in November 2024 and have instantly felt welcome and supported. As an activity coordinator, I am passionate about getting to know our residents and delivering person-centred care and activities to all residents, an approach supported by a holistic, whole-home view.
I have been in a Care support role since 2019 and an Activity Coordinator since 2020. I love that my role brings laughter and joy to others. It so wonderful seeing people engaging in an activity they enjoy and interacting with each other. I am very passionate about Intergenerational projects, as something magical happens when old and young get together.

Life at Westlake House Care Home
Spring is welcomed to Westlake House
Our beautiful gardens at Westlake House are classed as natural gardens as the are just cut out of the Surrey Hills. The gardens attract a great deal of pleasant wild life including an assortment of beautiful songbirds. Our residents and staff encourage all our garden visitors and find them a great source of entertainment. Our residents are seen here making birdfeeders to encourage such visitors. The birdfeeders are then taken around our gardens and we enjoy the sights and sounds. Welcome to Westlake House Spring.
Valentine's, Valentine's Day
We always share the love on Valentine's day at Westlake House. Its such a special day for us all. Our residents made and exchanged chocolate goody bags and enjoyed a celebratory meal in our restaurant. This year was extra special as we have a new resident called Valentine, who was born on Valentines day. Happy Birthday Valentine.
Birthday High Tea for Sheila
Happy Birthday Sheila. Sheila is enjoying an afternoon high tea, homemade cake and flowers for her Birthday treat. Birthdays are so special, we love to make a fuss of our Residents on their day.
Afternoon Curling at Westlake House
Afternoon entertainment here at Westlake House has recently included the Olympic sport of Curling. We have learnt that if our staff push back our table and chairs from our beautiful restaurant, the highly polished floor makes an ideal Curling Rink. A brilliant way for our residents to exercise and improve their wellbeing. Westlake House residents are not quite at Olympic standards yet but we all know anything is possible in todays world.
Robbie Burns 'Lunch'
Yesterday we enjoyed a Burns Night Lunchtime Celebrations. We had music, poems from the Bard and addresses from the ladies to the lasses and their reply. Chef put on his Kilt and made us traditional foods including Haggis, tatties and neeps if you dare, washed down by a wee dram of Drambuie!
We have received our Vaccines!
Staff and resident's at Westlake House welcomed their Covid19 vaccination's with enthusiasm and gratitude . Park Surgery at Horsham delivered the vaccination's skilfully and professionally. Kate Day our General Manager said' It was a painless experience for us, but offer's us all such hope towards the end of the pandemic'.
