Activities at Westvale House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Joanne Sherwood

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.

I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

A Cheese n Wine social afternoon

We love a cheese and wine social afternoon get-together with friends, family and colleagues

Chef presented a variety of delicious cheeses that we all enjoyed sampling with a glass of Vino or two!

Homeless Support Project

Westvale house care home in Warrington recently presented the “Homeless Support Project”-Leigh with a cheque for £1000 to towards furniture and dining chairs for the charity's project improving the lives of homeless people. The grant had been awarded by Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, a charity that helps older people and adults with a disability or mental health problems across England, Scotland and Wales by offering grants to help people connect or re-connect with others in their local community.

The care home welcomed members of the charity to a small gathering in the home’s conservatory to receive the cheque and celebrate being awarded the grant.

Burns night celebrations

Here at Westvale we prepared a traditional Burns Night feast to the tune of bagpipes.  To honour the famous Scottish poet, we hosted a poetry and music session to learn more about the Scottish Country Dancing and the Ceilidh and to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the haggis.

Chinese New Year

Residents at Westvale House have enjoyed a taste of China this week from snacks to beer or a shandy. Those who tasted the snacks really enjoyed their afternoon. We also got creative ourselves and made cardboard lanterns and dragons.

Games afternoon

Here at Westvale House we have started a Dominoes Tournament, after such fun was had playing a few games last week. We will be having a few games every Monday afternoon for the next 6 weeks ending in a play off between the residents with the most winning games.

As we have said before dominoes helps keep our minds active and has many cognitive benefits to keep our brain healthy.

Home present cheque to local charity

Westvale house care home in Warrington recently presented East Liverpool Riding School for the Disabled with a cheque for £800. The grant has been awarded by Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, a charity that helps older people and adults with a disability or mental health problems across England, Scotland and Wales by offering grants to help people connect or re-connect with others in their local community.
