Activities at Westvale House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Joanne Sherwood
Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.
I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Christmas Party!
What a great Christmas!
To celebrate the festive occasion, our residents, families and staff all got together for a Christmas Party with fun-filled games, quizzes, carol singing and a raffle.
Everyone was specially dressed for the party with colourful themed jumpers and costumes, our residents enjoyed a variety of treats and refreshments including wine & mince pies, all prepared by our team who were hard at work making sure that a great time was had by all – it really was a team effort!
Our residents enjoyed an afternoon of smiles complete with a live music performance that took place at the home. Local singer Rob Steele performed a selection of all-time favourite songs and Christmas carols, which brought happy memories to all. Our residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along. Everyone had the best time, and we truly celebrated Christmas together in style!
Thank you so much to everyone who gave their time, donated prizes, bought raffle tickets and above all, came along to spend Christmas with us! It was a very special day.
Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children
We are helping to make the world a better place by wearing festive jumpers in aid of Save the Children’s annual fundraising event, Christmas Jumper Day.
Our residents were encouraged to borrow or decorate their own special Christmas jumpers and raise awareness for children in need all around the world. Even our furry friends got involved! It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all.
Christmas Treat Decorating
In preparation for Christmas celebrations, staff and residents at Westvale House decided to have a treat-decorating afternoon, where we all put our own creative twist on biscuits, cookies and two Christmas cakes to share with everybody.
Much to residents’ delight, our team had prepared lots of cupcakes, biscuits and cookies so that residents could not only sample the wares, but have a go at creating and decorating their own with icing, fondant, edible baubles and glitter.
Residents decorated their sweet treats with Christmas-inspired designs ready for the home’s Christmas festivities. Residents had lots of fun piping Christmassy designs on cupcakes and biscuits, creating fondant creatures and characters - everyone loved getting into the festive spirit!
Festive Days Out
Ahead of the Christmas holidays, we’ve organised a trip out and visited a local garden centre! Thank you to Bents Garden & Home in Warrington for welcoming us.
Our residents were filled with joy during their visit and there were smiles and laughter all around. The place was specially decorated with beautiful festive lights, garlands and wreaths.
We’ve enjoyed some hot chocolates, mulled wine and tea and we were able to see the amazing ornaments and decorations and some wonderful Christmas flowers.
We truly enjoyed our day out.
Sunday Brunch
We're very lucky at Westvale House to have a friendly pub right next door! So to make the most of a cosy Sunday, we nipped out for a cup of tea and some brunch at The Maltings.
Our residents Eunice and Marie took a walk round the corner with our carers Jiji and Joy, and together they all had a lovely cup of tea and chat. Sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference, and set them up for a wonderful Sunday! They both had a lovely time and appreciated the one-on-one time.
Dashing through the snow....
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Westvale House care home in Old Hall, Warrington got into the Christmas spirit by joining a festive live virtual experience led by Des and Kelly from Performing Pets to visit a Christmas grotto where they got to meet some adorable reindeer.
