Activities at Westvale House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Joanne Sherwood

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator at Westvale House! I joined the team in December 2023 and absolutely love my role. Getting to spend time with our residents every day and getting to know each of them more and more, is such a privilege.

I get to create and tailor our activities to the preferences of each individual resident, making sure they're all doing things they'll absolutely love, and that brings me and the rest of the team so much joy. Making each of their days special is what I believe my job is all about.

Life at Westvale House Care Home

Puppy Love

Last week, our Chef Maureen brought her puppy JJ in to visit the residents, and it was the highlight of Jessie's day! She was over the moon to see JJ, play with him and have a snuggle.

All of us at Westvale are now begging Maureen for more regular visits, as JJ is such a beautiful and content little pooch!

Garden makeover

We love spending time in our garden, it is an environment where our residents and their families can sit, relax and enjoy a variety of exciting gardening activities.

Recently, our wonderful relatives with the help of our residents, have decorated our garden with colourful plants and pots and comfortable furniture, and we are ready to welcome loved ones, entertainers and special guests. With donations from local businesses, our garden is beautifully bright for the summer season! All of us here at Westvale House are so appreciative of the time put in by the families of our residents - it's one big happy home here and this act of kindness has definitely proven that!

Best in the field

This morning we had a visit from Chelsea at Rise for an uplifting sports activity session!

Our residents got involved with soft hockey and balloon tennis, before getting a bit competitive and splitting into teams to see who could score the most points!

In the end it was too close to choose a winner, making everyone victorious. Team Captains Tom and Doreen both got their glory moment and were proud as punch with their trophies

Thanks again to Chelsea at Rise, we had the best time!

Fish and chip frenzy!

We had a brilliant day celebrating National Fish and Chip Day today! The team at the home did a fantastic job, boxing up delicious fish, pies and chips for all residents to enjoy.

Our residents enjoyed a lovely day in the sun enjoying the first days of Summer, before taking a much needed fish and chip break, truly making it a day to remember. All generations got involved and, thanks to Head Chef Lesley's talent, truly agreed on the importance of celebrating National Fish and Chip Day!

It was a great day, enjoyed by all.

Singing the day away!

Friend of Westvale, Joe Cockx visited us once again this week! He came prepared for a sing-along, giving us all a great performance of some of our favourites such as Neil Diamond and Neil Sedaka.

The lounge was full and everyone had their hands up for Sweet Caroline, the atmosphere was great and everyone's already asking when Joe is coming back so they can do it all again! Thanks Joe, we can't wait for the next dance opportunity.

Spa fun

Residents at Westvale House care home have enjoyed an afternoon of pampering as they were given a hand and nail therapy session.  The team at the home were on hand to provide the resident centred pamper sessions, with residents enjoying treats such as cakes and refreshments whilst being given manicures and hand treatments.
