Activities at Westwood House Care Home
As Activity Coordinator at Westwood House I am fully committed to organising activities for all of the residents. This includes activities within the home such as reminiscence sessions, and planning events such as the Summer and Christmas parties. We have also provided some very successful trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and have monthly visits from entertainers and musicians. We are always encouraging local schools to get involved and have recently managed to get a local charity 'Spare tyre' working with us very successfully.
It is important to me that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Liz Wickers
My name is Liz and I am the lifestyle coordinator at Westwood House. I have always lived and worked in Southwark and Lambeth boroughs. I spent 25 years within the education sector before deciding to try new roles. As well as teaching I have also had the privilege of being a personal carer in Dementia. I am so happy that I have been welcomed into the Westwood House family where I can continue to grow and develop.
I aim to offer a range of varied and tailored activities and group sessions that are meaningful to each of them. I am thrilled to be supporting the team in delivering fun, engaging and interesting activities for our residents.
I look forward to meeting you all!

Life at Westwood House Care Home
Westwood House Coronation Celebrations!
We have had a fantastic few days celebrating The Coronation of King Charles lll. We have had an absolute blast thanks to our entertainers and all the staff who helped to make this a fun filled weekend.
Chef delighted us with a whole range of retro party foods; the residents faces were a picture when they spotted the cheese and pineapple and sausages on sticks.
Many of the residents families and friends joined us and enjoyed the food and a tipple or two, and of course we raised a glass to our new King.
The Wallis Collection Museum Visit
A great big THANK YOU! To Holly and Valessa for visiting us today here at Westwood House. They brought some wonderful art work and precious objects that relate to each painting.
Our residents were so engaged, discussing and admiring the works. To see and touch the objects gave a meaningful and tangible sensory experience.
Easter Egg Hunt
Such a glorious sunny day! Perfect for hunting for Easter Eggs. There is something quite magical when the sun is shining and you can feel the warmth, made even more so when chocolate is involved. The residents had a wonderful time collecting the eggs, lots of giggles along the way.
Handling History
We had a wonderful morning at Westwood House. Renia from ‘Handling History’ came to visit with a whole array of amazing items and objects from the past. There were household items, clothing and food items. The residents had a wonderful morning remembering and chatting about things they once had.
Mothers Day
Our Westwood Family thoroughly enjoy chatting, giggling and spending time together. Our residents, loved ones and the staff like nothing more than a get together, so to celebrate Mother’s Day we spent a great afternoon being entertained by Barry. We enjoyed a sing along and Barry ensured that our feet were tapping throughout. We finished off the afternoon with a slice of cake or two!
Who Cares?
The project 'Who Cares?', brings together older people living in care homes with A-Level Drama students from a local school. The project is fully funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and it involves the students receiving training in how to conduct a life story interview, and then interviewing care home residents about their lives and experiences. The students then work with a drama facilitator to create and perform theatre pieces based on the residents' life stories. One of our residents jumped at the chance to take part in this wonderful cross-generational project and has shared some wonderful memories of her life.
