Activities at Wimborne Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Zoe Freeman
I have been working in care since 2019 and love the industry. I came from working on cruise ships and running events and activities there which has set me up to be a successful activities coordinator in care. You will never see me without a smile on my face and always bring my fun and bubbly personality to my job. My favourite part of my job is making people cheerful and help make their wishes come true to show people that age is just a number and we can have fun no matter what!

Life at Wimborne Care Home
Winter Fest Coffee Morning & Christmas Jumper Day
On 16th December, all at Wimborne joined us for a Winter Fest Coffee Morning. There were many Christmas stalls provided by the local community that sold lots of lovely, handmade Christmas crafts and gifts. Freshly homemade mince pies and cakes, along with tea, coffee and hot chocolate were provided to all guests, residents and relatives, served by the staff who got dressed up in their best Christmas Jumpers.
The Novelty 90th Birthday Cake Challenge – The Queen's Royal Memory Box
On 12th June 2016, the Queen celebrated her 90th birthday and NAPA launched a 90th Birthday Cake Challenge which tasked care homes with baking a royal-themed birthday cake for the Queen. The idea was to bring residents, carers and chefs together to join in with the simple fun of baking.
Recently, we have been creating memory boxes for residents which are full of items, objects, photos and memories to discuss and reminisce about. All staff at Wimborne follow the philosophy of being a butterfly, flitting from one person to another, giving residents quality time and person-centred care. Residents realised that our Queen is the Queen of all butterflies, spending her time with her family and also the nation. This gave them an idea to create a memory box for the Queen herself, filled with lots of memories, items and photos of the past 90 years of being a Queen.
A massive congratulations to all residents who took part in creating the Queen's royal memory box as we became a top 20 finalist. Our winning cake is now published in the Art of Care Home Baking book which proudly stands centre stage in our home for everyone to see.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
All staff, residents and relatives all part in the Macmillan Coffee Morning by baking delicious cakes which we sold to raise money. Along with the table top sale and raffle, we managed to raise a fantastic £190.00. Everybody enjoyed their cakes and coffee whilst listening to the lovely music provided by the local pianist.
Annual Country and Western Summer Party
All staff, residents and relatives got involved with the spirit of the party and dressed up in country & western-themed clothing. There was also live entertainment provided by Lindsey Walker, who sang a medley of songs for everyone, and a great selection of homemade food available. We also had a surprise visit from Carer, Vanessa's, horse. The afternoon was a huge amount of fun with everybody in high spirits.
Care Home Open Day at Wimborne
Care Home Open Day is an initiative that has been put together to help change perceptions of care homes and invite local communities through the doors to experience life within our home.
Here at Wimborne, we invited everyone from our local community and beyond to come and enjoy the day with us. We held a coffee morning and also an afternoon tea party, along with raffles, live entertainment provided by Carer, Lois, and a variety of different stalls provided by The Red Cross and the local crafts and cards shop. Our friendly team were on hand to give tours of the home and to answer any questions about the wonderful services we can provide.
Royal Week at Wimborne
We held a Royal Week to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday with all residents, relatives and staff. The week was full of royal activities, including A Saturday Afternoon Matinee – 90 Years of a Queen, a visit from Mike and Biscuit the barn owl, tea parties and afternoon coffee mornings - and a day at Ascot. We also entered the National Activity Providers Association's A Right Royal Novelty Cake competition. Winners are being announced shortly, so fingers crossed!
