Activities at Winchester House Care Home

Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local priory and garden centres, as well as visits from musicians, a wide range of entertainers. We are lucky enough to have a enthusiastic team of volunteers who regularly visit the home throughout the week, and our yearly pantomime is a real crowd-pleaser and is well-attended by residents, relatives and members of staff. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Winchester House is fun and active.

Oh what fun we had, creating Christmas!

This Christmas our residents so enjoyed making the decorations for our home.  We had several wreath making classes which of course is always enjoyable if a bit messy, but not as messy as the Gingerbread bread house  making.  Who care's, our residents loved creating Christmas.  Happy Christmas to us all.

Alzheimer’s Society Elf Day

Alzheimer’s Society Elf day brought a little mischief to Winchester House, we raised money by dressing up and playing games including “Guess the name of the Elf”. Our happy little elves brought a smile to everyone’s face, it really was a day to remember.

Deck the Halls with bough's of Holly

We have been decorating baubles to put on our Christmas trees, residents enjoyed filling them with glitter and snow, and decorating the outside of the baubles with their initials. Our Christmas trees are now looking personal and so festive. Christmas - we are ready for you.

Celebrating Mickey Mouse Day

We had such fun discussing Mickey Mouse and other Disney films.  We found out that Mickey Mouse first appeared on screen in 'Steamboat Willy' in 1928.  Staff and Residents at Winchester House enjoyed treats to celebrate Mickey's big day.  He just never seems to get old.

Remembrance Sunday

“Remembrance Sunday, we think about and remember all those that we have lost fighting battles we didn’t see and wars we can’t even begin to imagine. We think about their sacrifices and the pains they must have endured, the heartaches and the sadness, and we thank them for their dedicated service. Some of our residents will remember those times, and we our honoured that we have them to share their experiences and remind us all of how lucky we are to have each other.”

Rewind to the 1950'2

“When 2020’s get's you down, there’s only one thing to do. Rewind all the way back to the 1950’s! We had a wonderful afternoon, full of dancing and rock n roll music! Our 1950’s diner cart provided refreshments in the form of traditional ice cream cola floats and snacks! By dancing our cart all around the home, everyone was able to join in the fun!”
