Activities at Wood Grange Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Ruby-Mae Walker

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Ruby-Mae and I am the activities Co-Ordinator here at Wood Grange.

My background is working in dance education and production as well as experience in the mental health care sector. I am extremely passionate about my role here in promoting life enrichment within the home and I feel privileged to work alongside such amazing people, and to be a part of our residents lives, spending quality time with them on a regular basis. I work alongside Louise to plan and organise daily activities to suit our resident’s needs, Louise and I are very enthusiastic about our roles and the resident’s well-being is always at the forefront of our minds.

I love to dance, keep fit by going to the gym and spending time with family.

Life at Wood Grange Care Home

A trip to the Garden Center

Some of our residents enjoyed a trip out to our local garden centre, Waterside. We explored the plant area and then looked at the wonderful Christmas decorations. It felt very magical and our residents where amazed by the variety of decorations, we all deserved a sit down at the café where some of the residents chose a cup of tea whilst others had a milkshake.

Bonfire Night

Relatives enjoyed a firework display from the comfort of being inside the warm home.  Soup and bread was on offer and families came to join in the fun.

Lavender Bags

Making lavender bags for Halloween, this activity was creative and sensory. The residents really enjoyed making these and loved smelling them.

Harvest Festival

We love autumn here at Wood Grange and for Harvest Festival we put up a lovely autumn display for residents and relatives to enjoy.

This year we collected non-perishable foods which we donated to the Butterfield Centre for the community pantry.

Letter from Kensington Palace

We gathered together to open a letter from Kensington Palace recently. Amanda Clare, Senior Nurse at the home, wrote to the palace in June to share her Jubilee poem with them, which was in our Jubilee Newsletter.

Amanda surprised us with a letter from Kensington Palace on Tuesday 18th October. We opened it with much excitement and read it together.

Remembrance Art

In remembrance of our Queen Elizabeth we wanted to stick up some colourful art of Her Majesty in remembrance of all the bright colours she used to wear. We used a lightbox to make our template and then used some Pop Art techniques to create these beautiful pieces of art, each resident wrote a message and then signed it.
