Activities at Woodhorn Park Care Home
Activities make up the most important part of all our days at Woodhorn park, so we ensure a variety of social events are available that reflect the interests of all the people we support. In our Memory Lane community, we have group conversations and regularly reminiscence about past experiences, which is something that people living with dementia really enjoy. Many residents love gardening, baking, outings, pet care and gentle exercise, which we provide, along with many other wholesome activities, as it is essential that life at Woodhorn Park is fun and active.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Woodhorn Park Care Home
Valentine's inspired cookery demo
We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration. Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.
First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.
Century celebrations
Celebrations have been in full swing at Woodhorn Park Care Home as one of its residents reaches her centenary in style.
Marion was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday.
Marion served as WAAF and is always keen to share her stories with staff and residents, Marion was married to Ron and she had two daughters. Marion is a well-known character and is loved by so many of the local community. She joined Woodhorn Park in July 2020, where she is enjoying a new chapter of her life.
The birthday girl, said: their secret to long life is to just keep moving and that’s the best you can do!
Birthday celebrations
A busy month for birthdays, another one of our fabulous ladies celebrated today, a huge happy birthday and why not celebrate with two cakes and being serenaded with your friends singing Happy Birthday
International Flower Day
We celebrated international flower day today by crafting, residents painted, weaved and made stain glass flower pictures. Residents enjoyed using the different materials to make their masterpieces.
Climate change
Woodhorn Park care home in Ashington recently received a donation of 10 tree saplings to be planted in their garden through the Climate change scheme which is run by Northumberland County Council. Residents are looking forward to adding their donation of saplings last year.
Christingle
As part of our creative festive activities, we’ve organised a crafts session to make Christingles - a symbolic object, which represents ‘Christ’s light’.
Our residents used oranges, candles, ribbons, sticks holding dried fruit and nuts to create beautiful Christingle decorations, which will be displayed around the home and also distributed to our local community.
Every element of the Christingle is symbolic: the orange represents the world, the red ribbon symbolised the blood of Jesus, the four sticks signify the compass directions and the seasons, the dried fruit are the fruits of the Earth and the lit candle represents Jesus as the light of the world.
