Activities at Woodhorn Park Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days at Woodhorn park, so we ensure a variety of social events are available that reflect the interests of all the people we support. In our Memory Lane community, we have group conversations and regularly reminiscence about past experiences, which is something that people living with dementia really enjoy. Many residents love gardening, baking, outings, pet care and gentle exercise, which we provide, along with many other wholesome activities, as it is essential that life at Woodhorn Park is fun and active.

Weeders and Seeders!

Our gardening club is a popular group activity here at Woodhorn Park and you’ll often find us outside pottering in the garden sorting out the raised bedding planters by weeding and planting new saplings as we did recently as part of Allotment week.  Our club has been nicknamed “Weeders & Seeders” and Residents love sharing stories of their favourite flowers and gardens at home to what they liked to grow!

Balloon Fiesta

Residents here at Woodhorn Park have been enjoying their own balloon festival in conjunction with the Bristol hot air balloon festival, residents enjoyed making their own and we shared photographs from a family member who was given a ride in a balloon as a present for their anniversary. If you look closely you will see residents flying high!!

International Youth Day

We celebrated International Youth Day virtually with English National Ballet’s youth dance company, ENBYouthCo and their Creative Director, Richard Bermange.

We had the opportunity to watch A Comedy in Long-shot, participate in a chair-based creative dance workshop and observe an open rehearsal where Richard and the young dancers created a performance inspired by our childhood memories.

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.

V&A Dundee - Night fever

We had a lovely time joining V&A Dundee curator, Kirsty Hassard, as she introduced us virtually to the history and design of night clubs and the club culture from the 1960s to present day.

We explored the evolution and development of night clubs around the world, from Italy to America, and closer to home, looked at their importance as cultural venues and designed spaces.

This current exhibition celebrates night clubs at a very important moment, as we all look to a brighter future where everyone can come back together, to dance and to enjoy nights out once again.

We all enjoyed the virtual talk.

Local brewery donates beer to Residents

We had a fun-filled day as we raised a glass and tasted top ales in recognition of International Beer Day.

Our residents enjoyed a mini beer festival in the garden and got involved in a variety of interesting activities. Residents enjoyed tasting beers that were donated from Alnwick Brewery, beers are locally brewed and we have also been invited along to their beer garden.

Some of our residents spent time learning about craft brewing and the history of beer, others preferred to join the beer tasting session in the garden and to try beers from all around the world.

It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all.

Home hold Dog Show

At Woodhorn Park we love our dogs and we recently held our very own virtual dog show for residents, family, and friends to shared their furry friends with us all too.

Dogs have fun loveable quirks, tricks and general gorgeousness. So, over the month we asked our community friends to share their loveable pet pictures and to enter their furry friends into  a whole host of fun categories.
