Activities at Woodhorn Park Care Home
Activities make up the most important part of all our days at Woodhorn park, so we ensure a variety of social events are available that reflect the interests of all the people we support. In our Memory Lane community, we have group conversations and regularly reminiscence about past experiences, which is something that people living with dementia really enjoy. Many residents love gardening, baking, outings, pet care and gentle exercise, which we provide, along with many other wholesome activities, as it is essential that life at Woodhorn Park is fun and active.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Woodhorn Park Care Home
Open Day
The theme for our recent open day was 'all things traditional' in recognition of the Queen's 92nd birthday. Staff members dressed in accordance to 1940s & 1950s' fashion – and they looked absolutely stunning!
Doris Day entertained residents and we had a fabulous party, drinking Pimm's and Prosecco. Everyone sang 'Happy Birthday' to Her Majesty, followed by a chorus of 'God Save the Queen'. Traditional high tea included ‘dainty sandwiches’, fresh cream scones, Battenburg and Victoria sandwich cakes, as well as a selection of teas.
Employee of the Month - March
Congratulations to Care Assistant, Tracy McMilan, who was named as our Employee of the Month for March. The award was given to her for demonstrating Barchester values within all aspects of her role: maintaining dignity, independence, showing empathy and empowering residents.
Queen's Birthday Celebrations
We recently celebrated Her Majesty's birthday and residents decided to 'dress the candy cart' with traditional memorabilia.
Easter Creations
Here at Woodhorn Park, we celebrated Easter in a traditional way. Prior to the bank holiday weekend, residents had been using their arts and crafts skills to make individual Easter Bonnets. Resident, Nesta, can be seen above proudly parading her Easter bonnet.
Sport Relief
The team at Woodhorn Park, as well as residents, took turns to complete a six hour exerciseathon. The aim of the day was for all partcipants to have fun and try new activities. Dulcie was thrilled with learning to jive in the ‘dance off ‘ with Jimmy. Carol mastered the art of the hula hoop and Duncan found his feet with the Wii. All were dressed in red to celebrate the day.
Residents, their relatives and staff members were all very supportive and were there to cheer on the participants as they began their chosen challenge for Sport Relief.
10 Years of Service
A care assistant has received a prestigious Long Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for ten years.
Margaret Chapman started at Barchester in September 20007 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.
Well done, Magaret!
