Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

A Visit to St. Michael's Church & Myland Parish Halls

This morning two of our ladies braved the frost for an early morning church service at St. Michael's Church & Myland Parish Halls, at their request, as the church means so much to them.

The service was moved into the church hall due to the cold weather. Our residents read passages from psalms, and followed with tea and a biscuit, we then went to look at the actual church, which is beautiful.

We are hoping to have more ladies on our next trip there, and to make this a regular activity into our wonderful community. Thank you so much to everyone who helped us today on our visit, we cannot wait to return and see the lit Christmas trees.

Christmas Fayre

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Christmas Fayre on Saturday, including families, local community and community craft stalls, it was a lovely day, and got us all in the festive spirit!

We raised a fabulous £350.00 from our kitchen food stall and our tombola and bottle tombola, which goes towards our residents fund.

Always Busy

Last week we had such a busy week here at Woodland View! We had a number of outings on our mini-bus and walking, which included visiting the seafront at Brightlingsea, Garden Centre, Costa Coffee trips (with cake included of course!) and Highwoods Country Park, residents enjoyed getting out and about in the community. Thank you to our volunteers Andrew and Teresa for helping on these trips, it is really appreciated

We also had G Fitness, where residents enjoyed using indoor boules in addition to the usual props they enjoy with Chloe!

Kevin, our therapy dog visited, much to the delight of all our residents, Kevin and his owner visit every week, not just communal areas, but room visits to give our residents something to look forwards to each week.

We had singing from Jane, who is the daughter of one of our residents, and entertained us on Saturday, Thankyou so much Jane!

Our Kingswood Community enjoyed sensory trolley and one to one activities as well as Gardening Club with Jason!

On to a new week, with lots more fun to be had!

Gardening Club At Woodland View

Sometimes part of Activities is changing the plan! When nobody fancied baking this morning, we changed it to an impromptu Gardening Session with our Gardener and Activities Assistant Jason. Some residents have enjoyed planting some winter pansies to brighten up our gardens downstairs within the home.

Gardening ensures sensory, emotional, creative and social needs are part of our residents day!

Fun at the beach

Staff and residents took advantage of the beautiful weather and had a trip to the beach at Manningtree where they enjoyed a picnic provided by our kitchen of residents favourite sandwiches, crisps and cake! The day was spent reminiscing about trips to the beach when everyone was younger and how they enjoyed paddling in the sea. Of course the afternoon wouldn’t have been complete without a trip to the ice-cream van to bring back even more memories, the next beach trip is already being planned!

Trip to the garden centre

A number of our residents have enjoyed visits on the mini-bus to our local community Garden Centre, to choose plants for all community gardens here at Woodland View. Residents are very keen to have a sensory garden within the Queen Boudica Community, and our Gardener and volunteer have been working hard on suggestions given to them for this by residents. At the Garden Centre everyone agreed that one of the best parts of the mini-bus trip was seeing all the beautiful plants on display, but the favourite part was definitely the fresh cream cakes!
