Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Cowboy themed Movement to Music

Here at Woodland View, our residents love keeping active, ensuring physical, sensory, social and creative needs are at the forefront of our activities.

We enjoy ‘Movement to Music’, but we do love variety! This month we donned our cowboy hats and sang along to the hits from the musical Calamity Jane, along with bubbles, ribbons and scarves to allow gentle physical movement, as well as lots of fun!

Gardening Club and National Gardening Week

To mark National Gardening Week, we held our first Gardening Club, which was a great success with families taking part also, and will now take place twice a month.

Residents had lots of fun out in the fresh air, planting our special coronation themed hanging baskets with beautiful red, white and blue flowers.

Kevin The Therapy Dog Visits

Kevin has been coming into Woodland View since February once a week, and has had such a positive impact on our residents.

Kevin visits all communities, including room visits for individuals who can’t, or do not wish to be in communal areas. This evokes memories and lots of reminiscing and stories with residents talking about pets they have loved, and ensures emotional, social and intellectual needs take place.

Celebrating the King's Coronation

Residents, families and staff all had a wonderful time at Woodland View to celebrate the King’s Coronation.

On Saturday the Coronation was shown, alongside our pudding club creation of Lemon Bundt cake as a tribute to our King, who’s favourite dessert is lemon. We then enjoyed entertainment from ‘Hat Check Honey’s’ in the afternoon, with a cockney knees up!

The Monday was a big celebration! Starting with Pearly Queen entertainment, followed by an amazing buffet from the Kitchen. We then enjoyed music from Black Cactus Choir, then singing from one of our favourites, Tessa, with a special live virtual signed performance from the children of Jesters Theatre Academy. A celebration fit for a King!

St Patrick’s Day Celebrations

Residents had such fun celebrating St Patrick’s Day, we enjoyed singing from one of our favourite entertainers, Keegan.  While residents enjoyed a  delicious Guinness infused Chocolate Cake made by our Second Chef, as part of our monthly Pudding Club. Of course, Guinness itself was enjoyed throughout the day. Everyone had a wonderful day celebrating.

Movement to Music

Residents enjoyed a musicals themed ‘Movement to Music’ session with Frederick Douglas Performing Arts Company. Scarves, Bubbles and musical instruments all made this interactive exercise a firm favourite with our residents. All while enjoying songs from musicals such as Guys and Dolls, Cats, Moulin Rouge, and Singing in the Rain.
