Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Life at Woodland View Care Home

Owl the Right Places

Owl the Right Places

Woodland View residents got a very unusual visit from a feathered friend, Twilight the barn owl.

Just over a year old and already very accustomed to visiting care homes in the area, Twilight made room to room visits for one-to-one time with residents. Twilight was stroked gently by most who she visited, with one resident's reaction being very funny as Twilight came into view: "WOW, OH WOW! WOW! OH MY WORD, WOW!" was exclaimed, with the widest-eyed expression ever seen, followed by the biggest smile, which was lovely to see.

Twilight will be visiting Woodland View on a regular basis, having had such a possessive impact on everyone.

NCS - A Farewell Concert

NCS - A Farewell Concert

After a week full of contributions from a fantastic team of young men, who anyone could and should be proud of, they said goodbye to all of the residents with a farewell concert. Residents really appreciated the time, energy and enthusiasm shown by the team during the week and we feel sure it will be talked about by everyone with fond memories for some time to come.

A number of people from the team, who have already established themselves as volunteers at Woodland View, will be returning on a regular basis after the summer.

NCS Perform

NCS Perform

A team of 3 young men from the NCS called into to residents' rooms to serenade them with a favourite tune or two. The response to the performances, which included songs by George Harrison (Here Comes The Sun), Elvis (Love Me Tender) and Ben. E. King (Stand By Me), was heartwarming, with a number of tears being shed amongst the big smiles. Staff were also moved to tears as they witnessed the reaction. It was a wonderful morning of very special moments.

NCS Host Bingo & Afternoon Tea

NCS Host Bingo & Afternoon Tea

The National Citizen Service recently contacted Woodland View and asked if we could help support this year’s 2 week NCS project - and we said, "of course!" A team of enthusiastic young men worked during their second week of the project at Woodland View.

On this particular day, the young men supplied a range of cakes, some of which they'd made themselves, as part of an afternoon tea for residents. Furthermore, they hosted an afternoon of bingo - a firm favourite - awarding prizes to those who won the games.

The Strolling Stones

The Strolling Stones

A while back, Woodland View announced on this very website that residents were working together to form a rock group.

Well, the time is right and we can now proudly unleash the results of the combined creative contributions, thanks to the team who worked so hard in the knowledge that it could be done!

The group has been christened 'The Strolling Stones' and are now a resident attraction at Woodland View. They are a colourful bunch, having been around for many years, only to be brought together for this very special gig!

We doubt anyone will ever get an autograph from the group, but suspect there will be those who want a 'selfie' with them.

Strawberry Cream Tea Reunion

Strawberry Cream Tea Reunion

Back in early July, residents at Woodland View were invited to attend the local Mother's Union Strawberry Cream Tea. It was very well-attended and enjoyed by almost everyone.

Unfortunately, there were a number of ladies at Woodland View who weren't feeling up to it on the day and were really very disappointed not to be able to attend. So, there was only one thing to do! Arrangements were made to reciprocate the invitation and invite members of the Mother's Union to Woodland View at a later date.

On Wednesday 26th July, we welcomed the Mother's Union ladies and residents attending really enjoyed this second opportunity for socialising, scones, strawberries and cream!
