Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Our First Minibus Trip of the Season

Our First Minibus Trip of the Season

Residents were very happy with the recent warm spell and took advantage by enjoying a minibus trip to a favoured garden centre: Barn Plants in Copford.

A number of plants were purchased to decorate tables in the coffee lounge back at the home, providing a very clear hint that spring is on its way!

Residents are already looking forward to a return trip to Barn Plants as the season progresses and their stock increases.

Nutrition Week Superfood

Nutrition Week Superfood

Although Woodland View offers a very healthy food selection to residents, Nutrition Week is the perfect opportunity to re-emphasise the personal choices residents can make every day.

The kitchen prepared a range of fruit smoothies with flavours including fruits of the forest, kiwi fruit, banana (with a bit of chocolate), exotic fruit salads; and a range of other super-foods which residents have access to on any given day.

Time for a Cuppa

Time for a Cuppa

Woodland View held its 'Time for a Cuppa' event in support of Dementia UK. There were cakes, tea, coffee, games and dancing chairs throughout the day, with a raffle thrown in for good measure.

A lovely bottle of Prosecco was the prize, and £43 was raised for Dementia UK. It was also resident Richard's birthday and, although he got a cake, he didn't get the bottle! However, he had a lovely birthday party with friends and family gathered for the occasion. Juliet was the lucky winner of the raffle.

Employee of the Month - February

Employee of the Month - February

The Woodland View Employee of the Month was revealed last week, much to the surprise of Activities Coordinator, Kevin Riley, the recipient of the accolade.

This award gives residents and staff the chance to recognise a member of the team who they think deserves recognition for going the extra mile in what they do each day.

It's never too late to keep fit!

It's never too late to keep fit!

The introduction of a Cross-Trainer in the coffee lounge is attracting attention from those who want to try to keep in shape or get back into shape. The Cross-Trainer is the first of a number of additions to the home that will assist with our 'fun and fitness' activities that we have planned. Coming soon will be a treadmill and a games consoles with easy to manage physical workout games.

World Book Day - Let Them Eat Cake!

World Book Day - Let Them Eat Cake!

It might have been World Book Day,  but residents at Woodland View were reading a little bit more between the lines.

Head Housekeeper, Mandy Ellis, normally marks occasions by bringing in baked treats - and today was no exception!

We enjoyed a discussion about our favourite books, but a lovely piece of cake with a beverage heightened the whole experience.

If you're going to do something, do it with style! That's what Woodland View has always manage to do.
