Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Liz is hitting the right key!

Liz is hitting the right key!

During the summer last year, resident Liz, mentioned in a conversation with Activities Coordinator, Kevin Riley, that she'd love to learn to play the keyboard. Kevin said he had one in his loft and would bring it in for her to practice. There was also another resident - Sylvia Davies - on the Memory Lane unit, who was a former music teacher; she was a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, so was a perfect accomplice for getting Liz up and running.

Before too long, Liz had the confidence to start practicing in the privacy of her own room and even bought her own keyboard and could be heard regularly.

Liz very proudly invited Kevin to listen to a number of her compositions recently, and it all goes to show that it's never too late to learn a new skill. Well done, Liz!

The Play That Goes Wrong

The Play That Goes Wrong

Residents took a trip to the Mercury Theatre in Colchester to see Mischief Theatre's touring production of 'The Play That Goes Wrong', the award winning comedy that is also showing on London's West End and on Broadway.

This rip-roaring production had the audience gasping for breath with laughter between one visual disaster to the next. Residents were joined by friends and family to make up a trip of 18 people in total.

Highland Style Chair Dancing

Highland Style Chair Dancing

Woodland View residents really demonstrated high spirits as they exercised and marked Burns Night.

In celebration of the occasion, residents danced in their chairs to a sequence of Scottish music - some of it traditional and some of it from Scottish artists - that covered many styles of of the genre over the ages.

Residents were also treated to a medley of their very own favourite 'oldies' to enjoy aswell. Nikki Taylor, of the Nikki Taylor Dance School, visited the home for the first time and loved her time there. Nikki was thrilled to be asked back the following week when she will have residents dancing and working out to a mix of 'Rat Pack' and disco tunes. Hopefully Nikki will be a regular to compliment the tai-chi sessions.

Residents will also be able to enjoy a performance at Woodland View from some of the Nikki Taylor's dance school students. This will be arranged for a date in the not too distant future.

Employee of the Month Double

Employee of the Month Double

Maintenance Manager, John McNally and Senior Carer, Cheryl Lee, were both declared Employee of the Month in December.

Comments received about the duo from residents were glowing, being praised for their care and dedication shown to those living at Woodland View and demonstrating that nothing was too much trouble.

Both received a small gift in recognition of their achievement.

Congratulations to you both.

Military Wives Choir

Military Wives Choir

Woodland View Care Home was honoured to receive a visit from the Colchester Military Wives Choir.

They sang a range of songs - some ballads, some upbeat - but all superbly performed. Residents at Woodland View thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. The home says thank you to the ladies; see you on Britain's Got Talent?
