Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Barchester Sponsors the Ladies' Gala Day

Barchester Sponsors the Ladies' Gala Day

On Friday 3rd March, Woodland View celebrated with the local bowls club on their ladies's gala day at Colchester Bowls Club.

Some of the ladies within the home also had a lovely afternoon out and very much enjoyed the hospitality of Colchester Bowls Club; they saw many matches, spoke with lots of people and eveb won a few raffle prizes.

One resident stated that it was such a lovely afternoon and that she had not been out in ages because of her mobility; she was worried about her walking but everyone made her feel at ease, so she thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for the next event.“

As their sponsor, we presented the winners with flowers and chocolates - it was a lovely day for all of us to enjoy.

Ladies reunited after twenty years

Ladies reunited after twenty years

What a shock it was when a resident attended the Colchester Bowls Club and spotted an old friend. Anne see a lady coming through the door across the room; they both looked at each other and instantly stopped in their tracks. They'd worked together in the past but hadn't seen each other in over two decades. They embraced and spent some time reminscing about the old days; there was a lot of news to catch up on.

The Jolly Boy's Outing

The Jolly Boy's Outing

Woodland View had the pleasure of being host to three lovely gentlemen: Len, Bob and John, who collectively go by the name, 'The Jolly Boy's Outing'. The trio are essentially a ukulele band, although other instruments featured in their performance. They also brought along some percussion instruments for residents to play, such as tambourines and maracas.

The boys all sang and covered a wide range of genres, with something to please everyone. The audience enthusiastically sang along, danced and played instruments in support of the band. The trio have all had a history of playing in other groups but have come together now as 'The Jolly Boy's Outing', and regularly play at care homes in the area.

Rest assured, they were so well received that future dates are already in the pipeline. Thank you so much boys, your outing was outstanding!

Celebrating Another Year!

Celebrating Another Year!

Woodland View residents, Mo, celebrated her birthday with family & friends with a party in the Tom Bowdidge lounge. Guests enjoyed a lovely buffet (featuring Mo's favourite cakes) and refreshments to mark the occasion. The kitchen team also presented Mo with a birthday cake to mark the big day.

Mamma Mia!

Mamma Mia!

Chair-based dancing has really caught on at Woodland View. Residents danced their way through a wide range of ABBA songs from their chairs, with a little bit of additional disco thrown in for good measure.

Niki Taylor runs her own dance school and has quickly become a firm favourite with residents, who love her music selection and the energy she brings to her sessions... you just can't sit still when Niki is in full flow!

Niki will be a regular at the home, encouraging everyone to get their arms and legs moving to the beat.

Check your hat... They're back!

Check your hat... They're back!

We were delighted to welcome back the much-loved Hat Check Honeys recently.

A firm favourite with residents, the singer and an accordion player group worked their way through all the old time Music Hall numbers, with everyone joining in, singing and waving their arms together.

Dates are yet again being looked at for another performance!
