Residents enjoyed a trip out for a full evening of lights and entertainment at Wisley Glow. It was lovely to walk around and see the different light displays and all the beautiful gardens in the dark. It was a rather chilly evening but we enjoyed a hot refreshment and a mince pie.  

Residents enjoyed creating their very own Christmas Cakes to enjoy on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Our Head Chef helped make traditional fruitcake as requested by the residents and they all got creative in decorating them. We have a cake for every floor of our home so that everyone gets to enjoy. It was lovely to see how different the cakes looked and how residents worked together to give us traditional looking cakes. We have some very creative and talented residents which allowed us to enter the cake competition.

Staff and residents were honoured to receive a visit from The High Sheriff of Surrey, Dr Julie Llewelyn. She was shown around the home and was able to observe residents taking part in different life enrichment activities such as playing interactive games on the home’s magic table which offers light projection games that encourage movement and interaction, and are extremely effective in helping residents living with dementia. She also enjoyed afternoon tea prepared by the home's in house Head Chef with members of staff. 

For the month of October, Worplesdon View Care Home Residents and staff set themselves a challenge of walking 1 million steps (within 31 days!) and raising funds for local charity Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. Residents and staff took part in any walks around the garden or on trips out. It was very much a team effort and a whole home approach. The target was reached on October 15, only half way through the challenge. Enthusiasm for the challenge did not dwindle and in total 2,194,144 steps were made. The care home welcomed Jane De Lay, Head of Community Engagement at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, to a small gathering in the home’s garden to receive the cheque and celebrate the effort of the staff and residents.

We enjoyed an amazing evening with so many residents family and friends. We had a really lovely firework display set off by our Maintenance Manager and everyone enjoyed some cookies, marshmallows and warm refreshments. It was most certainly cold but our small bonfire kept us warm and allowed us to toast the marshmallows. Sparklers added to the fun.

Remembrance Day was celebrated at Worplesdon View by many – some residents enjoyed a visit to Guildford Cathedral to listen to music performed by some talented local school children. Other residents watched a live performance from The English National Ballet Company. War poems were shared and stories told along with word searches and crosswords and sherry. Residents created some lovely poppies for our Remembrance Wall in honour of this special day.
