Activities at Wykeham House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Rachel Stevens
I joined Wykeham House in October 2022 but I have worked doing activities in care homes since I left College, I began volunteering in a local home when I was 15 years old and then took on my first job in a care home when I was 18. I have enjoyed extending my knowledge to improve my work and have a Level 2 in Dementia Awareness, Domestic Abuse Awareness and Mental Health Awareness. I have also attended courses on End-Of-Life Activities as well as Dementia focused Activities. I love what I do and for me it is important that every day is a new day for our residents with new opportunities and a smiling face to come with it.

Life at Wykeham House Care Home
Community deliveries for fish & chip day
Staff and residents at Wykeham House had a fantastic time celebrating National Fish & Chip Day surely one of the best days of the year!
Robert Head chef whipped up a feast along with some home-made tartare sauce and mushy peas, The sun was shining so some residents took to the garden to eat theirs. Staff even took to the streets to deliver some to our local community too.
Afternoon Tea on the Terrace
Glorious weather and glorious garden. Residents at Wykeham really enjoy being outside when they can. Whether is pottering, planting of just relaxing and basking in the sunshine with afternoon tea.
Live Floristry Masterclass with Bloominghaus
Residenst were treated to a virtual flower arranging demonstration with a difference, it was wonderful that our residents were able to follow along and create their own floral displays using flowers from our own garden and the local florist. It was a really enjoyable afternoon, we’re so grateful to Michal and Michael from Blooming Haus for this experience.”
International Nurses Day
Every day we thank our Nurses for the wonderful work they do for us and how they make Wykeham House brilliant. But on Nurses day, It was all about them. There was a presentation with chocolates and certificates for everyone followed by afternoon tea complete with music and lots of laughter. We even took to the local town with goodies to give thanks to all those nurses working in our community that we couldn't be without.
Day out in Brighton
We are so lucky to have the sea just a short drive away. Residents love nothing more than the wind in their hair and the sea air to breathe. And always a cheeky fish and chips thrown in.
Live Cookery demonstration
To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Wykeham House care home were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.
Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo. Much to residents’ delight, head chef Robert had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.
