Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Lynne Bowler
I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.
I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Life at Adlington Manor Care Home
Joy at Pet therapy visit
Residents of Adlington Manor were delighted to welcome Hendrik and his owner John to the home as part of the homes planned Pet Therapy session and first visit for Hendrik.
Hendrik behaved throughout and lapped up all the attention and the residents absolutely adored Hendrik’s visit. Following his visit there was a great buzz throughout and residents are already eagerly awaiting their new furry friends next visit.
Scottish Galleries virtual event
We had a lovely time joining Becca Clark and James Wylie – members of V&A Dundee’s exhibitions team – as they took us on a virtual tour of the museum’s incredible Scottish Design Galleries.
We were introduced to the wide range of unique objects at the galleries from architecture and engineering, jewellery and textiles to theatre and their fascinating stories.
And we were able to learn more about the importance of all objects in telling the rich and varied history of Scottish design.
It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all.
Flower arranging club
Residents at Adlington Manor enjoy their weekly flower arranging group, they love to come together to have a good old chat as they create their beautiful floral displays for the home, sharing memories of the days spent in their gardens and which are they favourite flowers before sitting back to relax and enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of home-made cake.
Sea Life Trust Beluga Whales
We took a wonderful virtual trip to Iceland and visited the SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary to have an inside look into the daily care of their two resident beluga whales: Little White and Little Grey.
Our residents were introduced to the history of the Beluga Whale Sanctuary and learnt more about its mission to provide a more natural home for belugas in human care with a first-hand look at how the dedicated team are not only caring for the whales, but preparing for their future in the sea sanctuary!
It was an enjoyable event for everyone, learning more about the amazing beluga whales and how they are cared for at the sanctuary.
World Photography Day
To mark World Photography Day, staff and residents were treated to a live streaming photography masterclass courtesy of top professional photographer, Damian Bailey.
A professional photographer since 2003, Damian has won Wedding Photographer of the Year and is listed as one of London’s top wedding photographers, having photographed over 700 weddings. Damian travels all over the country shooting weddings, events and families and loves to help people create memories by capturing wonderful images that will be passed on from generation to generation.
Damian’s talk explained how he goes about capturing special moments and what makes a great photo in terms of technique and composition. From landscapes to portrait photos, Damian shared his hints and tips for getting the best shots whatever the subject matter.
Residents treated to a circus themed event
Adlington Manor residents have been treated to a circus-themed event to the delight of everyone.
It was a fun-filled day of activities, games, food, popcorn and many clowns to keep everyone entertained. No trip to the circus would be the same without the ‘showman’ and residents were able to settle back and watch firm favourite, “The Greatest Showman” with ice-cream and popcorn before retiring to bed for a well-deserved rest!
The home was given a makeover with balloons, bunting and circus props. Meaningful lifestyles is at the heart of the homes life enrichment programme and the residents were thrilled to take part in such an exciting event.
