Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Lynne Bowler

Activities Coordinator

I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Life at Adlington Manor Care Home

Home celebrate International Youth Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Adlington Manor care home in Adlington were treated to a unique performance from English National Ballet to celebrate International Youth Day on August 12.

Prior to the day itself, members of English National Ballet’s youth dance company, ENBYouthCo, and their Creative Director, Richard Bermange, asked residents to submit their memories of going to see films over the years.  The cast then used these evocative descriptions, along with Arielle Smith’s digital production of Jolly Folly, as inspiration for their performance.

History of night life with the V&A

We had a lovely time joining V&A Dundee curator, Kirsty Hassard, as she introduced us virtually to the history and design of night clubs and the club culture from the 1960s to present day.

We explored the evolution and development of night clubs around the world, from Italy to America, and closer to home, looked at their importance as cultural venues and designed spaces.

This current exhibition celebrates night clubs at a very important moment, as we all look to a brighter future where everyone can come back together, to dance and to enjoy nights out once again.

We all enjoyed the virtual talk.

Robots with V&A Dundee

We enjoyed a wonderful virtual introduction to the world of robots with V&A Dundee Curator, Kirsty Hassard.

Kirsty talked us through the history of robots and their early beginnings, the presentation traced the fascination of all things wired and wonderful and considered what the future might hold for our relationship with a multitude of mechanical machines.

It was absolutely thrilling to learn what robots can do now and what they might be able to do in the future.

Blenheim Palace

We had a lovely time exploring the amazing gardens of Blenheim Palace through a virtual talk, hosted by the Historian - Antonia Keaney.

We enjoyed a virtual look at how the gardens at Blenheim have developed over the past 300 years - from the formality of Henry Wise through to the ‘natural’ landscape created by Capability Brown and beyond.

Everyone was very impressed by the many jewels hidden within the 150 acres of beautiful gardens.

Divisional Winner - Garden of the Year

The Maintenance team and gardener at Adlington Manor in Cheshire have been crowned Garden of the Year for North Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2021 and they are through to the national round of judging.

The Barchester Care Awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 12,000 residents living in Barchester’s 248 care homes and private hospitals across the country. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Dementia Care Champion’ and ‘Activities Coordinator of the Year’.

More than 2,900 nominations were received from homes and hospitals across the UK. All entries were a very high standard and they are all over the moon to have been named the winner for the North division beating hundreds of other nominees.

Bastille Day

Today we marked the National Day of France, also known as Bastille Day.

Our home was decorated with French flags and we all took part in French-themed activities throughout the day including: watching virtual fireworks and parades, learning interesting facts about France and some French phrases.

Our talented chef prepared some traditional French food, which we all enjoyed with a glass of French wine.
