Activities at Alice Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Penny Allen

Lead Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Penny and I am the Lead Activities Coordinator here at Alice Grange.

I have many years of experience working in care homes in Activities, leisure and lifestyle roles.

I love being part of the Alice Grange team and supporting our residents to live their best lives with fun, interesting, and varied activities available every week. I always feel that the residents' input into our weekly planner is important as it gives all residents equal opportunity to explore new interests as well as keeping up with previous passions and hobbies.

Mini Bus Outing to Ipswich Marina

On one of the rare sunny days that we are getting we headed out to Ipswich Marina to soak up the sun and to have morning coffee.

Taking the residents of Alice Grange out on trips of their choice and seeing how the area is changing opens up conversation and reminiscing of times gone by.

Vineyard visit and tour

This year, English Wine Week takes place from June 15th to 23rd and is being celebrated by wine enthusiasts from all over the country.

Whether you love a glass of fizz, a nice dry white, a delicate rosé, a juicy red or all of the above, English Wine Week is the perfect excuse to immerse yourself in the wonderful world of English wines.  It is no longer unusual to see fields of vines in England or to find English brands on the wine list in restaurants, English wines are now a force to be reckoned with.

To mark the occasion, residents had so much fun taking part in a visit to Shawsgate Vineyard and Winery taking in a tour, and some wine-tasting masterclass led by Katie where they found out about all the different styles of English wines, discovering how English winemaking first started and how much it has grown. Coinciding this with Suffolk Day was such a treat to sample English wines all being produced just outside the market town of Framlingham

Penny Allen Lead Activities Coordinator at Alice Grange Care Home said: “We have all learned so much this week about English wines, how they are made, and all the different styles, we had no idea there were so many different types of grapes being grown in this country, let alone only a few miles from Ipswich. Our residents really enjoyed their tasting session and their guided tour of the vineyard.

David, our Deputy Resident Ambassador at Alice Grange commented: “I love a glass of wine, there really isn’t anything better. I really enjoyed trying some different styles, I had no idea just how many vineyards there are in England now. It was hard to choose my favourite wine as all were very palatable !”

Pictures that mean something

Working with Margaret’s family to gather pictures from the past then spending time with Margaret to make this delightful memory for her that now is framed and on her wall.

That Smile from Margaret from Memory Lane just says it all, she was so proud of her pictures from the past and adding quotes in her own words.
