Activities at Arbour Court Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a variety of activities and events for all residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus, visits from entertainers and musicians and small group and individual activities in quiet yet stimulating environments. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect resident individual interests as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Aimee Pickford
Hi, my name is Aimee and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator & Dementia Champion here at Arbour Court. In 2019 I received my Level 3 Health and Social Care and decided I wanted to help and enrich the lives of others.
I started working at Arbour Court in January 2021 as a Care Assistant and progressed to be a Senior Carer. In October 2023 I moved onto the activities team as an Activities Team Leader. I love my role as one of our homes Activities Co-ordinators and love to find new and exciting ways to engage our residents.
I am also a Dementia Champion and work closely with our General Manager, Lisa and other Dementia Champions to implement Barchester's Dementia Framework within the home.
Being part of Arbour Court's family is very rewarding and I feel lucky to work in a great environment.

Life at Arbour Court Care Home
Lunch and latte in Marple
We had so much fun with a trip to Marple where we enjoyed tasty fish and chips from the local chip shop before a little retail therapy and a relaxing latte as we watched the world go by! Our residents love these special times and important trips out into the local community.
Cheese and wine afternoon
Residents at Arbour Court enjoyed a taste’tastic afternoon as everyone tucked into a delicious spread of cheeses from around the world, wine tasting, music played gently in the background and laughter could be heard throughout the home as memories were shared
Nurse wins Great British Care Award
Costa Gavrila at Arbour Care Care Home in Marple, Stockport has been crowned “The Social Care Good Nurse for The North Division” in the Great British Care Awards 2021 and is through to the national round of judging.
The Great British Care Awards celebrate excellence in social care. Costa was crowed the winner to acknowledge the important role that specialist nurses working in the care sector have in promoting the emotional, physical, psychological and social health of the people who they support. The judges were impressed by Costa’s ability to demonstrate how his nursing skills integrate with social care.
More than 2,900 nominations were received from homes and hospitals across the UK. All entries were a very high standard and Costa Gavrila is over the moon to have been named the winner for the North Division beating hundreds of other nominees.
Sea Life Trust Beluga Whales
We took a wonderful virtual trip to Iceland and visited the SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary to have an inside look into the daily care of their two resident beluga whales: Little White and Little Grey.
Our residents were introduced to the history of the Beluga Whale Sanctuary and learnt more about its mission to provide a more natural home for belugas in human care with a first-hand look at how the dedicated team are not only caring for the whales, but preparing for their future in the sea sanctuary!
It was an enjoyable event for everyone, learning more about the amazing beluga whales and how they are cared for at the sanctuary.
