Activities at Ashfields Care Home
At Ashfields, we strive to make our care and services as person-centred as we possibly can, and this includes our provision of activities. We will give prospective residents a 'Getting to Know Me' booklet to fill out with their loved ones before their arrival, which includes a little life history and a tick sheet for a vast amount of activities. This enables us to offer bespoke activities and helps us to learn valuable information about residents and what might stimulate them in conversations and trips.
Our specialist activities and lifestyle staff make sure there are always meaningful activities to take part in, such as gardening, baking and trips out to various locations nearby, including local cathedrals, cafés, garden centres and much more.
Residents are encouraged to take part and we try to get every person out at least once a month to places they might be interested in visiting, but it is always their choice, ultimately. We believe that having choice is very integral in helping residents feel that they still have control of their lives.
Activities are provided by everyone in our home, from Carers and specialised activities staff, right through to the admin team.
We are a registered member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA), which means that we are always working to make the quality of life of all residents as high as possible by offering person-centred activities that aim to stimulate both mentally and physically.
Xen Greenwood
My name is Xen and I am lucky enough to be the Activities Coordinator here at Ashfields.
I have experience working in care homes in Activities and leisure and lifestyle roles. In my own time I love to go antique shopping and making crafts.
I love being part of the Ashfields team and supporting our residents to live their best lives with fun, interesting, and varied activities available every week. I always feel its important for the residents to have the opportunity to explore new interests as well as keeping up with previous interests and hobbies.

Life at Ashfields Care Home
Christmas Cheer
We are working on a Christmas project alongside The Norfolk Archant, who are running a Christmas card initiative with local primary schools to write individual Christmas cards addressed to residents at care homes.
Some local primary schools are writing individual cards addressed to residents at care homes so they all have a Christmas card this year.
The Norfolk Archant have selected Ashfields to be involved and for the residents to receive a Christmas card from a local primary school pupil.
One of our residents took a shine to these cards she remembers making these with his children and offered to help deliver them around the home.
Christmas Care Package
Ashfields sent a care package to a staff member who is a granddaughter of a residents and her colleagues on Cringleford Ward at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. This was to show are support in these unprecedented times. We shortly received this lovely photo in response!
A Kind Donation
Morrison’s very kindly donated pumpkins to us for Halloween. We have used these pumpkins to create our very own pumpkin patch in the garden.
Over the Halloween period, the residents will be able to do their very own pumpkin picking in the comfort of their home.
Pumpkin Donation
Residents at Ashfields decided to donate some of their pumpkins to the local school.
The children from the local school will be taking these pumpkins home to carve and, when completed, they will line their pumpkins on the wall of the exterior of the home for the residents to judge.
When the decision has been made, we will contact the school for the winner to receive their prize!
Getting Crafty
Residents at Ashfields got crafty, as earlier this month it was mentioned in the residents' meeting that they would like to decorate the garden for Halloween. Who knew it could look this spooktacular?
Residents used the old trick with apier-mâché to create this spooky looking spider and knitting wool for his web.
This was a fun day had by all!
Century Celebrations
A resident at Ashfields was joined by staff and other residents, as she received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday mousse made by the home’s Head Chef, Tom Waters.
We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches this amazing milestone. This lady is such a popular resident who always has an interesting tale to tell, and we look forward to hearing many more as she breaks into her next century.
