Activities at Ashfields Care Home

At Ashfields, we strive to make our care and services as person-centred as we possibly can, and this includes our provision of activities. We will give prospective residents a 'Getting to Know Me' booklet to fill out with their loved ones before their arrival, which includes a little life history and a tick sheet for a vast amount of activities. This enables us to offer bespoke activities and helps us to learn valuable information about residents and what might stimulate them in conversations and trips.

Our specialist activities and lifestyle staff make sure there are always meaningful activities to take part in, such as gardening, baking and trips out to various locations nearby, including local cathedrals, cafés, garden centres and much more.

Residents are encouraged to take part and we try to get every person out at least once a month to places they might be interested in visiting, but it is always their choice, ultimately. We believe that having choice is very integral in helping residents feel that they still have control of their lives.

Activities are provided by everyone in our home, from Carers and specialised activities staff, right through to the admin team.

We are a registered member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA), which means that we are always working to make the quality of life of all residents as high as possible by offering person-centred activities that aim to stimulate both mentally and physically.

Xen Greenwood

Activities Coordinator

My name is Xen and I am lucky enough to be the Activities Coordinator here at Ashfields.

I have experience working in care homes in Activities and leisure and lifestyle roles. In my own time I love to go antique shopping and making crafts.

I love being part of the Ashfields team and supporting our residents to live their best lives with fun, interesting, and varied activities available every week. I always feel its important for the residents to have the opportunity to explore new interests as well as keeping up with previous interests and hobbies.

Life at Ashfields Care Home

Community Gifts

Norwich City Football Club kindly donated us a signed t shirt and a cake provided by Delia with a kind card saying "As the virus continues in its reach, everyone at Norwich City Football Club would like you to know that we will never take for granted you dedication and selflessness. This gift comes with our love and deep gratitude from the players, staff and supporters with love and thanks. Delia and Michael.''

Having one of our residents being a professional football player for Norwich city Football Club in the 1960's, this benefited our home massively. Thank you!

Beside the Seaside

At our weekly resident meeting, we talked about things that we miss doing; a few residents brought up that they miss the seaside, so we decided to bring the seaside to them.

We turned our cinema lounge into the beach and sang the good ol' fashioned 'Beside the Seaside' song. Residents had a lovely afternoon with ice creams and mocktails!

Cinema Lounge

Ashfields turned its cinema lounge into a spa retreat for a quiet secluded place in which the residents can rest and relax. If the soothing sounds of the sea along with the sweet smell of jasmine isn’t enough to make you feel less tense, we had a range of treatments on offer, from hand massages and manicures to foot soaks and facials.

Sport Relief

Residents took part in many fundraising sports for Sport Relief, from 10-pin bowling to sponsored cycle.

,

Tea by the Sea

One fresh crisp morning. we decided to get wrapped up warm,  hop on the minibus with a flask of tea and take a drive down to Wolcott, listening to the classic Florrie Ford song with the warm sun shining through the windows.

,

Mobile Petting Zoo

On February 17th, we had a special visit from Burt’s Mobile Petting Zoo. We see a variety of animals, from snakes to fluffy bunnies; even our gentleman barbers couldn’t leave without petting some of them. One resident even overcome her fear of snakes.
