Activities at Ashlar House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Reiki

Wow. We’ve just had the most amazing morning outside here in the garden at Ashlar House. Reiki practitioner, Kate Marshall gave reiki healing to one of our residents, Irene and to Gertrude, a visitor to the home today who was here to get a taster of our activities and to meet our team. Reiki is an energy healing technique that promotes relaxation, reduces stress and anxiety through gentle touch. The session took place under the trees and alongside the birdsong. A squirrel even turned up to join in the vibes! Both ladies loved the experience saying they felt so relaxed and rejuvenated. We’ve got more coming up! Kate, along with the home’s Activities Coordinator – Rita, have decided that they are going to start sessions for staff members and evening sessions for residents where they can drift off into slumber following the healing. Kate will also be bringing along her singing bowls and her lavender and rose crystal aromatherapy roller balls.

Classic Car Show

What a wonderful day we all had. Our motor enthusiast residents, families and staff visited the local Classic Car Show today Sunday, July 10th, organised by Rotary Club Epping. Everyone truly enjoyed exploring the wide variety of vintage and modern cars and had a fantastic time comparing the merits of the different models and discussing their histories. Lots of our residents are car enthusiasts so they loved being able to look at the cars and chat to their owners. They day was perfect for networking and meeting our local community friends. Refreshing drinks and delicious treats were also provided, which put a smile on everyone’s face.

Wimbledon

Today we had a fun time following and celebrating the annual Wimbledon tennis tournaments. Our home was decorated for the occasion and our residents were treated to a lovely tennis activity, provided by Glen. Our tennis fans were delighted to take part in our mini tennis championship, which was specially designed to boost health and fitness levels. We were also thrilled to welcome our new residents, who got involved in today’s life enrichment sessions too and truly enjoyed them.

Fine Dining

We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new residents, who have moved into Ashlar House recently. Today they’ve enjoyed a lovely dining experience with a number of delicious dishes, prepared by our talented chef, along with a glass of red wine. Our food is always cooked to highest standard and with residents’ preferences always in mind. The importance of a balanced diet is never forgotten here, so we offer a varied menu that has something for everyone to enjoy. As it's friday they ordered themselve to McDonalds

Celebrating NHS Birthday

Yesterday, ahead of time, Ashlar House together with Holly Whitbread, County Councillor for Epping and Theydon Bois and District Councillor for Epping Lindsey and Thornwood Common, distributed freshly baked cupcakes to healthcare staff in celebration of the 74th birthday of the NHS. This milestone presented us with opportunities to showcase our support and to acknowledge all local and national health and social workers. We continued to spread joy and happiness today as we delivered cakes and delicious treats to The Limes Medical Centre and St Margaret's Hospital, managed by the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. We would like to say a big thank you to all members of the NHS for their continuous hard work, dedication and support. And of course a big shout out to our residents’ families and friends of Ashlar House, who helped making the wonderful cakes for the amazing NHS staff members.

Sports Day

What a wonderful day we all had. We were delighted to attend the Sports Day at our local Coopersale Hall School. Our residents had special VIP seats, so they can enjoy the games and support the children as they took part in various activities such as, running, skipping and bean bag races. The sun was shining and everyone had a brilliant time getting together before the children’s summer break. There were smiles and laughter all around the grounds.
