Activities at Ashlar House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Women's Football

Several hours of our residents made the effort to dress for the occasion whilst even those that don’t enjoy football got into the spirit. You could feel the energy when England scored in the first half. You could cut the tension when Germany equalised in the second half, an electric finish in extra time was celebrated by all at Ashlar house. That’s enough punditry from us, we’ve all earned a well-deserved rest as we catch our breath!

An Afternoon at the Opera

We had a fabulous time with the talented soprano Astrid Joos from Street Theatre. Astrid spoke about a selection of famous operas and our residents were treated to performances of wonderful arias from operas well-known to all, such as ‘Giuditta’, ‘Don Giovanni’ and ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’. It was a lovely experience, truly enjoyed by all.

Wine and Cheese Tasting

National Wine and Cheese Day is a date that celebrates the ultimate pairing of cheese and wine. In recognition of the day, we hosted an elegant cheese and wine tasting experience in the evening whilst enjoying our digital Oomph on Demand interactive activities. A wide variety of wines were made available to our residents along with a delicious selection of local cheeses. Candles were lit and lovely music was playing in the background, the atmosphere at the home was indeed fantastic.

2-4-6-8, who do we appreciate? Ivy Chimneys!

The residents from Ashlar house went to support the children at Ivy Chimneys for their sports day. The children took part in many events such as egg and spoon race, bean bag throwing, fancy dress, up and over, water relay and finally watched the year 6 traditional running race. Although we played an important role cheering on the children whilst passing with their pom-poms. Mini Trophies were issued on behalf of our Ashlar House family to various children for bravery, along with making a little friends company. The morning was an enjoyable event.

Aves Optometrists practice

Here at Ashlar House, we provide care options that are designed to offer our residents an excellent, person-centred experience. Our team is always happy to offer helpful advice and to ensure we provide a range of different services, based on residents’ needs and wishes. Some of our services include keeping and scheduling residents’ private appointments, based on their personal choice, whether it’s their preferred optician, hair dresser or podiatrist they have used in the past.
One of our residents recently visited Aves Optometrists practice, where she was registered since 1992. We base our approach to everyone we care for on maintaining dignity, independence and choice.

Reiki

Wow. We’ve just had the most amazing morning outside here in the garden at Ashlar House. Reiki practitioner, Kate Marshall gave reiki healing to one of our residents, Irene and to Gertrude, a visitor to the home today who was here to get a taster of our activities and to meet our team. Reiki is an energy healing technique that promotes relaxation, reduces stress and anxiety through gentle touch. The session took place under the trees and alongside the birdsong. A squirrel even turned up to join in the vibes! Both ladies loved the experience saying they felt so relaxed and rejuvenated. We’ve got more coming up! Kate, along with the home’s Activities Coordinator – Rita, have decided that they are going to start sessions for staff members and evening sessions for residents where they can drift off into slumber following the healing. Kate will also be bringing along her singing bowls and her lavender and rose crystal aromatherapy roller balls.
