Activities at Ashlar House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Scrabble and Word Games

Following on from a word association game that we played yesterday, we decided to put our skills to a test and get together for a lovely game of Scrabble. The words that some of us came up with were fantastic and the stories behind them were even better. A game of Scrabble can do wonderful things for the brain and memory, whilst also promoting feel-good emotions. A great time was had by all.

Mini Golf

We enjoyed playing mini golf recently, one of our lady residents showed her cheeky side, pretending she had never played golf. One of our gentleman resident eagerly put himself forward to show her, after he took some time showing her how to hold the golf club, she laughed and stated "Only joking I’ve done this before". She then went on to beat everyone and won the trophy.

A fantastic time was had by all.

Vocal Coach

We had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper as he led an amazing virtual singing session for our residents to enjoy. Our residents were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I’m a Believer’ by The Monkees. There were smiles and laugher all around even our 102 years old resident had a great time. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.

Pre Halloween Fun

The afternoon show was a wonderful eclectic mix of music from the past and present featuring the odd spooky tune here and there and of course, classic big band music for residents and their families to enjoy. It was lovely to see so many residents, and their families together getting up and dancing to the turns of yesteryear.

Every little step counts!

William was a member of the University of the Third Age for 11 years, participating in country & forest walks, retired at the age of 70. After attending the residents October meeting himself and others took on a weekly walking challenge. It can be steps, meters or miles, either way any excuse to catch the winter breeze, enjoy the nature and focus on movement is always welcome. One of our residents has a great competitive spirit and took the challenge of completing the daily steps very seriously. He felt totally rewarded at the finishing line. An Apple watch was issued to the residents, so they could track their steps and show off later. Of course, the fantastic achievements were properly celebrated with cake and tea in the afternoon. What a lovely experience, enjoyed by all involved.
