Activities at Ashlar House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Lifting Spirits

Hand massages are an enjoyable instant activity for senior residents at all levels.  They are an easy, inexpensive and great way to help residents feel loved and calm. Physical touching is very important to well-being and is a fundamental human sensory need. Relaxing music was played to set the ambience in a quiet lounge or in the comfort of their room.

International Joke Day

In recognition of International Joke Day residents and family members were asked to share their best jokes. FaceTime was used to share the experience with loved ones, which included highly infectious laughing exercises that seemed to spread like wild fire throughout the home. A side-splitting day chocked full of laughter fuelled endorphins.

Father's Day

We celebrated Father’s Day and each of our dads spent time with their children and grandchildren over video calls. Cards and gifts were then distributed to our special fathers. We then enjoyed ‘Songs of Praise’ on the TV as a group activity. It was another special day that was enjoyed by all!

,

International Museum Day

In recognition of International Museum Day, Catherine at Epping Forest Direct Museum kindly loaned their collection of assorted memorabilia from the '40s, '50s and '60s for our residents to interact with.

Our residents then discussed their memories of similar items and compared these to those kept in their rooms and throughout the home.

Many of these items were perfect for the VE Day celebrations too, as some of the residents were fascinated by the first edition newspapers from the day.

It was a fun, tactile and rewarding day for all!

,

Online Singalong

Our residents from Ashlar House were invited to participate in an online singing session via Zoom. Residents got involved and enjoyed every moment of it, and yes, they did have fun!

VE Day Celebrations

We paid homage to the brave men and women of World War 2 by celebrating VE Day. Several of our residents shared their memories of this very special day 75 years ago with BBC Essex of moments when Victory in Europe was announced.

We all paid our respects by marking 2 minutes of silence at 11:00. Special decorations were put up around the home and Bridget from Cake Art Essex spoilt us all with stunning VE Day Cupcakes.

It was special time in our calendar that was enjoyed by all!
