Activities at Ashlar House Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Rita Green
As the Community Engagement Lead and Lifestyle Coordinator, I will be spending time with each resident and their loved ones to build a detailed picture of each individual, so that each person’s stay with us is as meaningful as possible. Although I have been working within this field for many years, thanks to the uniqueness of each resident, I am always enjoying new experiences in my role. My goal is to create an activities programme that caters to the capabilities of residents, including, but not limited to, individual and group activity.
I've spent the past few years forging strong relationships within the community and developing a pool of talented individuals that can support our in-house team to bring out the best in those we care for.
As we never stop growing and changing, it is important that we maintain an up-to-date Getting To Know Me booklet. With your help, the activities scheduled for your loved ones will be as relevant and enjoyable as possible.
I’m very much looking forward to working with all of you.

Life at Ashlar House Care Home
World Photography Day
World Photography Day was celebrated at Ashlar House. This got our residents to communicate their feelings and express themselves through the art of photography. The event encourage our participants to look at old and new cameras displayed with a selection of hotography books. Facts sheets and quizzes were, issued which delivered intellectual & cognitive needs.
Book Lovers Day
Books are the purest form of escapism, and in recognition of this, several of our residents' favourite books were borrowed from the Ashlar House Library and loaded onto a mini mobile library and taken door-to-door for all residents.
Some of the less able residents used the opportunity to interact with the books, allowing sight, touch and smell to transport them back to memories whilst being read to. Our more able residents spent time in our Garden area reading books and discussing their favourite tales.
A fun and interactive day for all.
Families Reunited
Residents of Ashlar House were recently reunited with their loved ones for the first time since the start of lockdown after new social distances measures were implemented to allow for visitors. Ashlar House is following strict safety procedures. All visits are being carefully organised and monitored with two metre social distancing and PPE provided.
Lifting Spirits
Hand massages are an enjoyable instant activity for senior residents at all levels. They are an easy, inexpensive and great way to help residents feel loved and calm. Physical touching is very important to well-being and is a fundamental human sensory need. Relaxing music was played to set the ambience in a quiet lounge or in the comfort of their room.
International Joke Day
In recognition of International Joke Day residents and family members were asked to share their best jokes. FaceTime was used to share the experience with loved ones, which included highly infectious laughing exercises that seemed to spread like wild fire throughout the home. A side-splitting day chocked full of laughter fuelled endorphins.
Father's Day
We celebrated Father’s Day and each of our dads spent time with their children and grandchildren over video calls. Cards and gifts were then distributed to our special fathers. We then enjoyed ‘Songs of Praise’ on the TV as a group activity. It was another special day that was enjoyed by all!
