Activities at Ashlar House Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Rita Green
As the Community Engagement Lead and Lifestyle Coordinator, I will be spending time with each resident and their loved ones to build a detailed picture of each individual, so that each person’s stay with us is as meaningful as possible. Although I have been working within this field for many years, thanks to the uniqueness of each resident, I am always enjoying new experiences in my role. My goal is to create an activities programme that caters to the capabilities of residents, including, but not limited to, individual and group activity.
I've spent the past few years forging strong relationships within the community and developing a pool of talented individuals that can support our in-house team to bring out the best in those we care for.
As we never stop growing and changing, it is important that we maintain an up-to-date Getting To Know Me booklet. With your help, the activities scheduled for your loved ones will be as relevant and enjoyable as possible.
I’m very much looking forward to working with all of you.

Life at Ashlar House Care Home
Virtual Storytime
Ashlar House residents have been reading the the reception class kids from Coopersale Theydon Garnon via Video conference. The children selected the book ahead of time and it was delivered to us several days early.
It was a fun and captivating session... our residents eagerly await their report card from the teacher.
Virtual Christmas Quiz
This week’s Virtual Classroom session was a Christmas-themed Winter Wonderland. The students at Coopersale Theydon Garnon School created a fun Christmas quiz for our residents, which lead to reminiscing about Christmas past, as well as a wider discussion on seasonal holidays, including Hunukkah. It was a fun and informative exploration of the season!
Christmas Crafts
We are in the run up to the holiday season and we have begun our festive preparations at Ashlar House. As is now a tradition, our residents have been hard at work creating hand-crafted cards for loved ones, either in small groups or in one-to-one sessions.
These festive treats are being posted or hand-delivered in a scheduled visiting pod session with loved ones. This officially marks the beginning of what we are all certain will be a memorable season full of cheer and joy!
Remembrance Day
This year's Remembrance Day was made special despite the now prevalent challenges of COVID-19. As our usual supporters at Epping Air Cadets were unable to attend, our friends at the British Legion were kind enough to supply our home with a plethora of unused exhibition materials that could not be displayed at their own event in May.
Our resident Knitters also took the opportunity to flex their needles and crafted a beautiful array of remembrance poppies which are now displayed with pride. In continuation of recent traditions both Ivy Chimney and Coopersale and Theydon Garnon Schools crafted wreaths, which we are proud to have on display in our home.
Finally, during the 2 minutes of silence, we were fortunate to have the whole children from Coopersale and Theydon Garnon School joining us via Video Conference with the local church and more from the community. Staff at Ashlar House took part in reading to the children.
Halloween Preparations
Autumn has arrived, the leaves are changing colour and the nights are getting colder. The best part of the 10th month of the year is Halloween.
Our residents have already been knitting scarves and jumpers for their grandchildren and Halloween themed decorations and snacks are taking pride of place on the shelves around the home.
Virtual Exercise Class
Residents participated in their first virtual exercise class delivered on FaceTime via laptop. Residents used maracas, scarves and balloons and followed along to a group class. A fun an interactive session and the first of many that will be delivered in this format.
