Activities at Ashlar House Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Rita Green
As the Community Engagement Lead and Lifestyle Coordinator, I will be spending time with each resident and their loved ones to build a detailed picture of each individual, so that each person’s stay with us is as meaningful as possible. Although I have been working within this field for many years, thanks to the uniqueness of each resident, I am always enjoying new experiences in my role. My goal is to create an activities programme that caters to the capabilities of residents, including, but not limited to, individual and group activity.
I've spent the past few years forging strong relationships within the community and developing a pool of talented individuals that can support our in-house team to bring out the best in those we care for.
As we never stop growing and changing, it is important that we maintain an up-to-date Getting To Know Me booklet. With your help, the activities scheduled for your loved ones will be as relevant and enjoyable as possible.
I’m very much looking forward to working with all of you.

Life at Ashlar House Care Home
Memory Box
We all lead busy lives, packing so much into them that it's sometimes difficult to catch your breath! But in the midst of all this business, you are living a life full of memories that you will want to remember. What's a nicer thing to do than look back and reminisce with loved ones about things that have happened in the past?
Record Reminiscence
The classical retro turntable record player was originally designed and produced when the majority of our residents were in their dancing years. This took our residents back!
A Virtual Lesson
Coopersale Primary School were talking about their art lesson, where they looked at how different colours affect their mood. The children listened to 4 different types of music and made watercolour paintings to respond to the music.
Jewish Celebrations
We payed homage to the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) by sharing apple and honey amongst our residents.
We also celebrated Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement, and thought to be the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.
Although our residents aren’t fasting this year, many of them have gathered in small groups for prayer and to exchange stories. Those less able were included in the occasion in their rooms.
Celebration cards will be sent to loved ones.
National Doodle Day
Our residents have spent their day creating unique works of art in a myriad of styles across many mediums. Some elected to use bush and pallet whilst others enjoyed the tactile experience with fingers and paint. Lots of fun and pride was had in the create process, from inception to committing their creations to canvas!
National Dog Day
National Dog Day is a day for people to recognize the importance of dogs and how they impact their lives on a daily basis. It is also a day to recognize how hard service dogs work on our behalf and also to draw attention to the plight of abused and abandoned dogs.
