Activities at Beeston View Memory Lane Community
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

National Umbrella Day
National Umbrella Day casts a little shade on February 10th. The day honors one of the world's most useful inventions, the umbrella! Residents celebrated the occasion by creating their own colourful umbrella stand for their balcony and enjoyed a fun-filled facts session on umbrellas.
Did you know that umbrellas are otherwise called parasols but parasols have not always been waterproof, and are intended to shield people from the sunshine rather than the rain....
Hence National Umbrella Day is a day to honour the important invention which protects us from rain and sunlight! We had a lot of fun throughout the day before sitting back to enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of home-made cake.
International Chocolate Day
We had a fantastic time celebrating International Chocolate Cake Day, surely one of the best days of the year. Our residents tasted a selection of different chocolate treats from chocolate cupcakes to slices of gooey chocolate fudge cake whilst getting involved in fun-filled cake baking and decorating activities. Our Home was filled with the delicious aroma of chocolate! It was a fabulous day, enjoyed by all and more importantly we had a good excuse to eat chocolate all day long.
Burns night supper
Here at Iddenshall we prepared a traditional Burns Night feast to the tune of bagpipes.
To honour the famous Scottish poet, we hosted a poetry and music session to learn more about the Scottish Country Dancing and the Ceilidh and to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the haggis.
Our tables were specially decorated with flowers and Scottish flags for the occasion as our residents enjoyed delicious Scot Broth, Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, Cranachan and Scottish Shortbread, prepared by our talented chef.
Saturday night fever
We had a great celebration that began in the morning with the preparation of 2 jars of mocktails with 2 different flavours. Then the party continued in the afternoon we watched the legendary Saturday Night Fever movie and we had enough time to sing, dance and enjoy a festive atmosphere.
Exercising the mind and body
Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at Iddenshall Hall. With a little friendly competitiveness, everyone wanted to beat each other, Residents got ready to win their carpet bowls! There was a lot of laughter as they played their game.
Graceland
Our home was transformed into Graceland to mark what would have been Elvis Presley’s 87th birthday today.
It is estimated that Elvis has sold over one billion records worldwide so to honour the undisputed King of Rock & Roll, we all enjoyed a fantastic day of music, fun and dancing.
Our residents found out some interesting facts about Elvis that they haven’t heard before, watched a short biography about the famous singer and actor and listened to some of Elvis’s hits.
We all had a wonderful day.
