Activities at Beeston View Memory Lane Community

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Luisa Painemilla

Activities Coordinator

Hi there, I'm Luisa, Activities Co-ordinator at Iddenshall Hall.

I have worked with the elderly over 8 years and also for fifteen years in the social field as an Activities Coordinator for different social groups in three countries. I have a Degree in Social Integration, a Certificate in Theatrical Psychology and a Music Therapy certificate. In the past I have worked for local authorities and in a cerebral palsy home.

My work is very rewarding and it is a pleasure planning events and activities each month. I enjoy interacting with Residents and learning about their interests, preferences and experiences.

Look out for our activities and events - you are welcome to join us!

Birthday celebrations

Everyone at Iddenshall Hall and Beeston View would like to wish resident, Thelma, a very happy birthday!

With specially designed invitations by the birthday girl herself, residents and staff were invited to join her to celebrate over a slice of home-made cake in the homes lounge, where everyone gave her a rousing chorus of ‘Happy Birthday’ before settling back to enjoy some of her favourite songs.

Thelma was delighted to be surrounded with cake, cards and presents from loved ones and staff pampered Thelma throughout the day with fun and laughter to ensure that the birthday girl had a wonderful day.

Getting creative

Residents of Beeston View really enjoyed making their individual personalised bookmarks for the New Year, whilst talking about their own personal hopes and wishes for 2021. The activity was both creative and thought provoking and there was also lots of fun, laughter and chat!  Arts and crafts is a popular activity for the home as Residents enjoy the sensory experience of the many different colours, textures and paper as they show their creative sides.

Residents create floral displays

Residents of Beeston View recently enjoyed a ‘blooming’ afternoon as they created a selection of floral displays for the homes communal areas.  The beautiful flowers fill the room with a wonderful scent.

The residents used their creative flair to create wonderful displays to decorate the communal areas of the home for all to see.  It was a colourful session and conversation flowed as they talked about their favourite plants and flowers.

Elf Day

In Aid of the Alzheimer's Society we had a fun day with a visiting Elf who kindly brought chocolate and sweet treats to all residents.  Activities coordinator Luisa recruited our Elf from the housekeeping department!  There's no end to our colleague's talents at Beeston View.

Musicality

Music is so important to us all at Beeston View, we regularly play and discuss our favourite tunes.  At this time of year the Carols are featuring almost daily.  Residents play along with a variety of instruments having fun keeping the back track, rhythum and beat

Keeping residents connected during the colder months

Residents are overjoyed at Beeston View care home in Clotton, as Barchester Healthcare has implemented an indoor visiting suite for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones in the upcoming months, in addition to the outdoor visiting that has been on offer.

There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment. The visiting suite has been designed with both comfort and safety in mind, and has been recently adapted from a room which is accessible internally by residents and externally by visitors. The room is similar to a living room with comfortable furnishings, and heated to create a welcoming and warm environment, and has an intercom system fitted, so residents can clearly communicate, and engage in conversation, whilst being able to see their friends and family through a Perspex glass divider, fitted for safety to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
