Activities at Bere Grove Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Hollie Wren

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I'm Hollie. I have worked in healthcare for six years taking on a variety of roles. I am so proud to be heading up the activity team and supporting our residents with a life-enriching programme of events. I am highly motivated and love sharing my creative and imaginative side with everyone. I truly believe age is just a number and there is nothing we cannot achieve if we work together.

I like to create a person-centred activity programme so each resident gets the opportunity to enjoy what they love. This is their time to relax, enjoy and have fun.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Bere Grove Care Home

Coffee on a cold day

Recently, we took a trip to the The Bumblebee Café in Rowlands Castle. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the outing, particularly Suzanne as she lived in the village for many years. The hot drink was welcome giving how chilly it has been outside and the café were so welcoming and accommodating.

Valentine's Day

The day started with every resident receiving a beautiful homemade Valentine’s card. Spreading love and happiness is what we do best!

In the afternoon some of our talented bakers made heart shaped cookies covered with heart toppings that everyone will enjoy this evening.

We hope everyone has a lovely Valentine’s Day from all of us here!

Intergenerational Fun!

Our General Manager Diana and Lead Activities coordinator Hollie, took at trip with some of our residents to The Clanfield Centre.

They spent a few hours in the centre's wonderful Brewster's Cafe along with children and families from Petersgate Infant School. Together they made some wonderful Terrariums and had an informative talk.
A Terrarium is like a garden in a bowl, growing lovely plants that may not grow so well in our usual surroundings.

This is all part of a programme called 'Grow Up' that is run by East Hampshire District Council and funded by the UK Government, to support our rural economy, reconnect people with countryside, provide new skills, new careers and new opportunities for our residents.

The residents really enjoyed their time with the children and we hope to visit again soon, thank you to Zack and Mollie who lead this for the centre!

We would also like to thank Nick from Community First Fareham who came to pick us up in his minibus for the event, it was a luxury ride!

Family Matters

We know the importance of family and firmly believe that your family is our family. Alan and his daughter, Christine are a perfect example of this. Christine is an extremely talented piano player and teacher who also gives up her time to play for the residents here at Bere Grove. The piano that Christine plays when she visits is her father Alan's. She learnt to play on it growing up and Alan brought it with him when he moved in to Bere Grove. Now, they both share it's wonderful tune with all of us!

Birthday Celebration's

We have been wishing a Happy Birthday to our wonderful resident Sylvia.Birthday's are a time when family, friends and fellow residents can come together. It is fun for all involved, including the staff and visitors. No matter what the special occasion or celebration is, it will have one thing in common and that will be good company and a great cake! On this occasion, we were privileged to have Barchester's Lead Quality Improvement Regulations Manager, Vicky Coughlan join us in celebrating a resident's birthday during her visit to the home.

Did someone say pub?

On residents request, we had a ladies lunch out to our local pub! We enjoyed a scrummy meal with a cheeky gin and tonic.Dawn said “Thank you for a lovely afternoon, it was nice to all have lunch together.. today was the most fun I’ve had in a while!”Here at Bere Grove, we let our residents decide on where they would like to go on our weekly minibus outing adventures! I wonder where we’ll go next!
