Activities at Bluebell Park Care Home

Here at Bluebell Park our aim is to enrich the lives of our residents, through group, and individual activities.

We have a wide range of activities designed to mentally, and physically stimulate the people we care for, including regular trips out in the mini bus, and taking part in the community led events that happen in the village we live in. We hold monthly resident meetings so our planning reflects their wishes, and requests, for example we now hold a regular bingo club (which residents families love to attend) and a bowling afternoon which the gentlemen here particularly enjoy. Entertainers and musicians regularly come into the home and families and friends are always welcome to attend too.

Activities are one of the most important aspects of our care home, and we strive to have a full range on offer. Our team here at Bluebell are dedicated to ensuring our residents enjoy, and get as much out of our entertainment as possible. It is without a doubt our mission is to make sure that life at Bluebell is active, fun, and most of all happy.

Leanne Lowe

Activity Coordinator

Hello.  My name is Leanne Lowe and I am the Activity Coordinator for Bluebell Park.

I have worked for Barchester for 6 years as a Carer and I have now made the move to Activities.

During my time here I have built lovely friendships and knowledge of our residents . I aim to offer a range of varied and tailored activities and group sessions that are meaningful to each of our residents.  I am thrilled to be supporting the whole team at Bluebell Park in delivering fun, engaging and interesting activities for our residents. We also have a minibus which is used weekly to take residents out to cafes, local beauty spots and day trips.

Life at Bluebell Park Care Home

A breath of fresh air

Residents of Bluebell Park took to the homes nearby park to take advantage of the recent glorious weather.  Everyone commented on how much better they felt for grabbing a breath of fresh air, feeling the sun on their faces and checking on the progress of the plants and colourful flowers growing.

Resident, David remarked “how nice it was to talk a walk in the fresh air”

Birthday celebrations

Resident, David celebrated his 81-years young birthday in style surrounded by staff and friends in the home who presented him with his favourite chocolate brownies which family had sent into the home.  As the candles were lit everyone gave a rousing rendition of happy birthday!

Senior General Manager, Rachel Smith, said : “It was a lovely afternoon which was enjoyed by everyone and it was nice that David could share his day with all the other residents and the staff made sure his birthday celebrations were spectacular!”

Scarecrow Making

Residents of Bluebell Park enjoyed an arts and crafts session as they build their own Scarecrow as part of National Scarecrow Day.  Every year on the first Saturday in July whilst more popular in the USA people come together worldwide to build a scarecrow.

The role of a good scarecrow is to scare the crows and other birds away so that they will not eat the freshly-planted seed and the growing crops and Residents will be placing their new friend in the garden for all to see.

Spreading some positivi-tea

Residents of Bluebell Park brewed up a storm to enjoy a double celebration as they hosted an afternoon tea and welcomed new activities coordiantor, Justyna to the home.  Hospitality supplied a tasty selection of biscuits, cakes, and of course, teas for the event.

Residents really enjoyed the choice of teas, cakes and events and recently celebrated National Cream tea in the home and as a nation who truly loves their tea, it was great excuse for an afternoon brew and a natter. It was also a good way to celebrate and welcome Justyna to the team.

Staying In Touch

Residents at Bluebell Park have been busy writing letters and creating cards to send to their loved ones as a surprise. Residents have also been making use of skype and facetime so that they can video call their relatives – although some weren’t too sure about the new technology!

Senior General Manager, Rachel Smith said “It is vitally important that we ensure that our residents can remain in contact with their family and friends during this time. New technology is great for this purpose, but of course a good old fashioned letter is just as welcome!”

Happy Father’s Day!

Residents at Bluebell Park enjoyed a leisurely day in the garden in celebration of Father’s Day taking advantage of the glorious sunshine.    This year, due to the current situation, family and friends joined in the celebrations virtually via video call. Residents weren’t phased by this however, as they have become quite tech savvy at Skype calls, FaceTime, and online events. These platforms are an invaluable way to keep people connected with loved ones and friends, as well as with the local communities, during these unprecedented times.

Staff and residents enjoyed a day of good conversation and weather.  A traditional homemade Sunday lunch was prepared by the home’s chef for everyone to enjoy.
