Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

International Carrot Day

This week we celebrated International Carrot Day.. who knew there was such a thing!

So of course we had to make something.. residents on our Forget Me Not suite made carrot smoothies and a very delicious carrot cake that was enjoyed by all!

Did you know?

Baby carrots are not actually a type of carrot. They originated in California when a farmer, Mike Yurosek, chopped and peeled malformed carrots to make them look perfect!

March's Employee Of The Month

Residents and staff at Boroughbridge Manor applauded Activities Coordinator, Shelbie who was named ‘Employee of the Month’ for going above and beyond in all aspects of her role!

Shelbie was nominated by colleagues who felt she really deserved extra recognition for the amazing work she does every day. Shelbie continues to go above and beyond each day from providing stimulating, engaging and fun activities for residents, to supporting colleagues in other departments.

Shelbie was congratulated by the home’s Manager for the achievement and was presented with a £25 voucher as a special thank you.

Shelbie joined the Boroughbridge Manor Family in 2017 where she started as a Carer. In 2020 Shelbie decided to have a change and take on an Activities role, where she does an astounding job!

Shelbie and her team have created a wonderful culture within the home where they work together to give residents the best possible experience.

A huge thank you from the whole of the Boroughbridge Manor Family for your continuous hard work and dedication.

Doris Day

Today we marked the wonderful Doris Day, who would have celebrated her 100th birthday. Doris was a well-known American actress, singer, and animal welfare activist.

Our home was filled with the sounds of her hits as residents remembered their favourites and enjoyed watching Calamity Jane.

We’ve spent time discovering top facts about Doris that we never knew provided by Oomph Wellness and looked at photos of Doris through the years followed by tea and cakes!

Easter Preparations

Easter preparations are under way here at Boroughbridge Manor!

Our craft club gathered in the activity room and made their very own Easter wreath! We can't wait to display it round the home and show off their creativity skills!

Church Service

This afternoon we had the pleasure of welcoming back Rev Karen Gardiner from St James’ Parish Church in Boroughbridge, after a very long 2 years!

The service started with the hymn ‘All things bright and beautiful’ followed by prayers and finished with ‘Amazing Grace’.

For many residents in our home, a church service can feel comforting and familiar as a lot of our residents used to attend church regularly before coming to the Manor, it also contributes to a persons overall well-being.

Karen will be holding a service every month at the home.

Easter Egg Donations

A huge thank you to Karen at Community Champions - Morrisons Boroughbridge for the Easter egg donations, it is extremely appreciated and they will be thoroughly enjoyed when we celebrate Easter!
