Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Life at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Visit from our furry friends!

We have had another fantastic morning here at Boroughbridge Manor with Carmel and Ciara. Everyone always loves having a visit from our four legged therapy friend, even Barney gets super excited to see her.

International Chocolate Cake Day

We had a fantastic time celebrating International Chocolate Cake Day, surely one of the best days of the year.

We tasted a selection of different chocolate treats from chocolate cupcakes/cakes to jaffa cakes and cake bars! Residents got involved in fun-filled baking and decorating activities.

It was a fabulous day, enjoyed by all and more importantly we had a good excuse to eat chocolate all day long.

RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch

The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch is an annual event that encourages people to birdwatch in their own gardens. The event takes place over a full weekend in January, and participants are asked to count the birds they see in their garden.

To coincide with RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch our residents thoroughly enjoyed making bird feeders for our feathered friends. The bird feeders were made using lard and plenty of seeds.

We had a great time hanging them in the garden and observing the birds enjoying the feeders.

Understanding Dementia with Dementia Forward

This week we enjoyed a visit from Fiona at Dementia Forward who provided an informative talk to Families and those within the local community.

We understand how hard it can be to process, adjust and care for a loved one living with Dementia. That's why we have teamed up with Dementia Forward to provide support, information, education and awareness regarding dementia and all of the issues surrounding this disease.

Thank you for Fiona for a great informative evening.

We will be sharing the next date with you all very soon, so please stay tuned!

Burns Night celebrations at Boroughbridge Manor

To honour the famous Scottish poet, we hosted a poetry session, our craft club got together and decorated flags, had a fabulous visit from KL PONY Therapy and thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon of whiskey tasting and was treated to some delicious shortbread courtesy of our Chef, Tony.

We all had a wonderful time learning more about Robert Burns and the Scottish culture and traditions.

Virtual Sensory Storytelling Session

Our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.

Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets.

A lovely time was had by all.
