Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I am proud to be the Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor since 2017, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

I have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

This afternoon we took a trip out to Ripon Spa Gardens for their Illuminated Winter Wonderland.
Even though we didn’t quite see all the spectacular lights we had a fantastic afternoon walking around and enjoying the fresh air!
It was beautifully set out and our residents had a great time! They even got the chance to have a snowball fight in one of the tents! Safe to say Kathy was definitely the best baller.
We even managed to see Santa before leaving and resident Lucy was smitten.
A fabulous afternoon!

Primary School Visit

This morning we welcomed back Roecliffe CE Primary School to perform a variety of Christmas songs. Together we sang some traditional carols such as 'Away in a Manger' and the children performed 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' using Makaton (signs and symbols to aid communication).
The children then spent time chatting to us about their Christmas traditions and hand delivered cards they had made at school.
Before leaving we all got together for a good old Christmas jingle and residents handed the children some cards we had made earlier in the week.
From all of us, at Boroughbridge Manor, we wish you a Merry Christmas!

Meeting the Reindeers

Across our homes we got into the Christmas spirit of things by joining a festive live virtual experience, led by Des and Kelly from Performing Pets.

Our residents were thrilled to meet the charming furry friends and get up close and personal with the reindeers.

We certainly learnt some interesting facts about the animals and had a fantastic time.

Gingerbread House Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Boroughbridge Manor care home in Boroughbridge love any excuse to get creative so when they found out it was Gingerbread House Day on December 12, they didn’t need any persuading to get cracking!

Residents throughout the home got busy decorating with icing, buttercream, marshmallows, and sweet treats to make some of the glitziest gingerbread houses in town! The residents worked together as a team and between them, created some masterpieces!

Christmas Creativity

The residents at Boroughbridge carried on with the Christmas festivities as they came together to create a collection of wonderful 'salt dough' baubles to take pride of place on our homes Christmas Tree's.

Our residents had lots of fun as they reminisced about their favourite Christmas memories and traded stories of festive times passed.

Christmas Musical Extravaganza!

Boroughbridge Manor was delighted to welcome back the wonderful Rebekah Austin as we began our run up to Christmas in spectacular style.

Our residents, guests and colleagues had a wonderful morning filled with song and dance all to the sounds of Rebekah's festive selection of favourite hit songs!
