Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the residents we look after. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun. We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

Yasmine Dawson

Activities Coordinator

I have worked at Braeburn Lodge since 2015. I started working as a carer and the activities side of the role really appealed to me. We organise a variety of activities to suit everybody’s preferences and abilities. I enjoy working at Braeburn and making a difference to the residents’ lives.

Did somebody say Ascot?

We held a small Ascot themed “Cocktail” party in our wonderful gardens with some of our very excited residents!

After a couple of days of creating our own hats and watching the highlights of all the live races, we finally made it to the party.  One resident in particular made a big effort in her

Entire outfit in order to fit in with the whole theme of Ascot.

It was a wonderfully engaging morning with lots of lovely nibbles and refreshing cocktails.  We sang, we ate and we toasted our glasses to all the champion horses.

Father’s Day Sing-a-long

As part of our Father’s Day treat one of our lovely carers took it upon herself to organise a special concert for our wonderful residents.

Roger, our exciting entertainer, serenaded our residents with his wonderful presence and musical ability. He was quite the charmer and really bonded with everybody. This mini concert was not only a special event aimed at our wonderful Fathers, but also an opportunity for the rest of the home to enjoy too!

Later, all of our lovely Fathers and Grandfathers were treated to a trolley full of exciting, edible treats. There was also a selection of pampering items for those who chose an alternative gift.

History of Wall's icecream

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event in celebration on National Ice Cream Day. Wall’s team took us on a great journey through history, sharing fascinating details about the brand since its launch in 1922. We learned about major innovations such as the introduction of Mr Whippy, Cornetto, Viennetta, Twister, and Carte d'Or.

Residents were treated to a singalong to Cornetto classic ads, an interactive quiz about fun Wall’s facts and best-of-all, an ice-cream tasting session. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our ice-cream lovers.

Dogs Trust

Across of homes residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.

Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.

Special Yoga for Special People

After a much-anticipated wait, our lovely residents were finally introduced to a new "armchair" yoga regime. Cindy Lee, our new Yoga instructor has over 30 years of experience working within Special Need schools and Care homes, preparing, and adapting her exercises to fit in within the needs of residents.

During our first session at Braeburn Lodge our wonderful residents were treated to a light workout consisting of arms and leg stretches, facial and hand massages, vocal breathing techniques and a little bit of relaxation.

It is safe to say our residents thoroughly enjoyed today's activity and cannot wait to work out with Cindy once again in a couple of weeks.

The big Help Out at Braeburn Lodge

In tribute to His Majesty the King's public service, The Big Help Out campaign was introduced this year as a way of bringing local communities together to create a lasting volunteering legacy, starting from the Coronation weekend! As part of this wonderful campaign Braeburn Lodge welcomed the lovely Scouts from Deeping Explorers for a very productive morning full of gardening.

The weather may have not been the best, although some of our residents chose to participate in this exciting event by sitting in the gardens and chatting to the children as they worked hard as a team.

Thanks to the very talented Scouts our gardens had a wonderful spruce over, together with lots of new plant pots and much needed weeding.
