Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the residents we look after. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun. We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

A Special Birthday Request

On June 9th we celebrated our wonderful Brenda's Birthday with a Tea Party arranged especially for her family and fellow residents.

Brenda has made many lovely friends in our home and thoroughly enjoys spending time with them all, especially if it's a special occasion! She also loves to invite her family over and often spends quality time with her great grandchildren when she can.

Brenda’s Tea Party was a huge success. Both residents and staff also joined in with the fun and helped Brenda have the best time ever.

Braeburn Makes another Wish Come True!

A couple of months ago one of our wonderful residents asked if we could arrange a romantic meal for her and her beloved husband in our lovely home. Joyce and Peter have been married for many years. Peter visits his childhood sweetheart every day without fail. They like to join into most of our daily activities and thoroughly enjoy being a part of the Braeburn Lodge Family.

Together with the help of our wonderful chef we arranged a surprise lunch for our wonderful couple in one of our special dinning rooms. Joyce and Peter enjoyed their romantic lunch together and could not thank us enough for the kindness and love we had shown them!

RAF Museum London

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.

Art Historian virtual talk

Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.  It was a truly lovely time for all.

The rich history of coronations

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

The Coronation fever has truly set in!

Over the last couple of weeks our wonderful residents have been working extra hard on preparing for our big celebratory party on the 7th of May this year.

Some of our residents have been keen on making the decorations, some of them have been knitting wonderful royal dolls and some have even written beautiful letters to our new king.

The King’s Coronation will be a very memorable occasion for all our residents this year. All the staff at Braeburn Lodge will try their very best to make sure our lovely residents enjoy the coronation weekend as much as possible.
