Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the mind, body and soul of the residents we look after. Taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun.

We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

Yasmine Dawson

Activities Coordinator

I have worked at Braeburn Lodge since 2015. I started working as a carer and the activities side of the role really appealed to me. We organise a variety of activities to suit everybody’s preferences and abilities. I enjoy working at Braeburn and making a difference to the residents’ lives.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

The Elfie Twins update!

What mischievous little elves!

They've defiantly made themselves at home at Braeburn Lodge. Here's some of the antics they have been up to this week, keeping everyone on their toes... who knows what they'll be up to next?

A Christmas Carol

Across our homes we’ve had the most wonderful time celebrating the festive season with a special screening of 2020’s OLD VIC: IN CAMERA – A Christmas Carol.

This beautifully staged production brought the magic of Dickens’ classic tale right into our homes. A huge thank you to The Old Vic theatre for sharing this incredible performance with us. It was a truly wonderful experience.

Festive Floristry Workshop

Staff and residents across our homes were treated to an interactive virtual Christmas-inspired table decorating masterclass, courtesy of talented master florist, Kathryn Delve.

Kathryn is an independent florist based in Somerset, she specialises in creating unique wedding and event flowers.  She takes much of her inspiration for her displays from the beautiful scenery that surrounds her home and the changing seasons and colours.

During the workshop, residents were invited to join Kathryn to make beautiful Christmas-themed table decorations.

Gifting Tree

Braeburn Lodge has joined up with the local charity, Deep in Kindness to support our local children this Christmas with our own gifting tree. Residents, staff and visitors have been busy collecting tags and buying gifts, so no children will go without.

Resident Joan has been helping wrap some of the gifts brought, saying “its such an honourable and selfless thing to do, it makes me smile knowing the children will all have something under their tree”
Deep in Kindness is an amazing charity, who extend a hand of compassion and support to our community's most vulnerable members.

What a show!

Braeburn Lodge hosted its annual firework display for the residents, families and friend’s. It went off with a bang as everyone gathered to enjoy the spectacular display, warmed up with hot chocolate and hotdogs.

It was amazing seeing everyone come together for the event, which is why we do it every year. Everyone was able to enjoy the magic, watching from window’s, balcony’s and in the courtyard. It really was a beautiful, wholesome evening for everyone at Braeburn Lodge with residents smiling, feeling joy and excitement as each firework was set off.

Trick or Treat!

The residents had a spooktacular day for Halloween. They kicked of their day with some creative face painting, designing ghosts, pumpkins and spiders to help get in the spooky spirit. Residents dressed up in witch’s hats as they patiently waited, with bowls full of goodies, for the arrival of the children from the community.

The residents were had an amazing evening and loved seeing all your different costumes, masks and props. Resident ambassador Nancy said "It’s been an entertaining night, the kiddies looked amazing"
