Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the residents we look after. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun. We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

Yasmine Dawson

Activities Coordinator

I have worked at Braeburn Lodge since 2015. I started working as a carer and the activities side of the role really appealed to me. We organise a variety of activities to suit everybody’s preferences and abilities. I enjoy working at Braeburn and making a difference to the residents’ lives.

Life at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Home hosts Summer Fair

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Braeburn Lodge to enjoy a Summer Fete that was held in the home’s grounds on 29th June 2024.

Braeburn Lodge hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including local stall holders, Hook a Duck, a raffle, tombola and live entertainment from a local theatre school and the children from Dream Dance, which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the event.

Virtual trip to Eden Project

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.

During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories.  A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.

Fantastic Father’s Day

On the 16th June the whole home helped celebrate all the amazing men we have, from residents to staff, we wanted our dads to know they were loved and appreciated. The men in our home got a special dad rosette and our amazing kitchen prepared an outstanding Sunday roast. Dennis was over joyed when he was given his rosette and sat proudly for a photo. We had a sensational performance from Gabriella, who had a surprise duet with our resident Stella, there amazing connection brought a tear to many eyes and it was a magical ending to the day.

Visit to Notcutts Garden Centre

We were joined by Joan and Jill on a very special trip to buy some surprise additions to Braeburn Lodge. As soon as we stepped off the mini bus at Notcutts Garden centre we could smell the beautiful flowers. Joan loves being outdoors and was memorized by all the vibrant colours. Jill clocked all the garden ornaments, her favourite were the little dogs. We strolled through to the animals where they chatted away to a parrot, who was casually sitting on his perch. The ladies then helped us choose two little special additions to Braeburn Lodge. We carefully drove home and Jill and Joan have promised to keep our new little friends a secret until the big reveal at our summer fete.

Nancy celebrates turning 106 years young

On June 2nd our fabulous Nancy celebrated her 106th birthday in style. She sipped on her bubbly as she sat like a queen surrounded by her loved ones who had worked with the home to plan this extravagant day. Nancy’s daughter said “my mother had a wonderful day.” Nancy received a total of 102 cards including one from King Charles and Queen Camilla. Nancy is a remarkable lady, she is a published novelist and was once a world record holder, and we were honoured to share this memorable day with her.

Wonders of the ocean

Residents across our services enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of The Deep, an award-winning aquarium in Hull.

Our residents dived into the underwater world of some fascinating creatures such as sharks, turtles and stingrays.

It was a truly immersive and educational experience that brought the wonders of the ocean right to our screens.
