Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the residents we look after. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun. We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

Manicures & Laughs

Manicures & Laughs

Our camera happened to catch this lovely moment between Llyan, our hairdresser and manicurist, and 3 residents. You could hear the laughter a mile away!

Burghley House & Gardens

Burghley House & Gardens

We had the best weather we could hope for on our day out at Burghley House and Gardens. We took some food with us and enjoyed having a picnic in the sun whilst watching the kids play on the grass. We then took a trip into the Garden of Surprises to appreciate all of the lovely water features and ponds. It was nice to see the children playing in the fountains and we came home with massive smiles on our faces.

Baking at Braeburn

Baking at Braeburn

On a miserable wet summer's day, we had a spur-of-the-moment idea to bake some cupcakes as a delicious afternoon snack. As a bonus, this meant that the entire upstairs floor smelt of cupcakes - lucky us! With a bit of hard work and a lot of teamwork, we eventually got to taste them - served with a hot cup of tea and a sense of achievement. They were definitely something to be proud of; all of that mixing had produced the lightest and airiest cupcakes we’ve ever had. They were so good that there wasn't any left by the end of the day.

Musical Afternoon at Ayscoughfee Hall

Musical Afternoon at Ayscoughfee Hall

For the second weekend running, we journeyed over to Spalding for a musical afternoon in Ayscoughfee Hall Gardens. This time we were entertained by the Ukulele Orchestra of Spalding and were reduced to fits of laughter at their jokes. Of course, there was also lots of singing and dancing (including some hula dancing!) along to the music. A cup of tea and biscuits made the afternoon complete and we can’t wait for the next one!

Tai Chi

Tai Chi

Our monthly Tai Chi session just gets bigger and bigger, with 13 participants attending the latest one. An hour of stretching and moving - and giggling at Carer, Claire’s, demonstration - had us energised and ready for a hearty lunch!

Wild! Science

Wild! Science

This week, Georgia, from Wild Science, brought in a selection of her pets for some animal therapy with one mission in mind: to have as much fuss and cuddles as possible! The millipede was an incredible tactile experience as the legs felt like Velcro on the skin. The gecko kept jumping onto people’s arms and running up their shoulders, providing a lot of entertainment. The snake discredited many misconceptions about the species and everyone was tempted to have a feel of its cool - and not slimy - scales. The baby hedgehog was only 3 months old and a little nervous at first, but she soon got used to the fuss and her little nose wiggle was a big crowd-pleaser. All the staff came by to have a peek, including our Administrator, Nikki, who couldn’t resist holding the millipede. We look forward to Georgia returning with her pets in the future.
