Activities at Bryn Ivor Lodge Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Foot Spas

The Seager residents received luxurious foot spas and hand massages. We enjoyed sharing lovely conversations over a cup of tea and being pampered. All ladies stated this was one of the best activities we provided, with Grace even stating it felt like ‘heaven’! Joan admitted never having a foot spa before and was overjoyed to go through this new experience. And, as she added, ‘you’re never too old to experience new things’. We completely agree with you Joan!

Gardening and Arts Combined!

Our Residents on Tredegar community decided to plant the succulents in this week’s Gardening Club. We had a brilliant idea to use ceramic cups we painted last week as the plant pots. They turned out absolutely beautiful and are now basking in the sunshine on the dining room windowsill. Our Residents were busy putting the correct amount of compost, making sure the plants were watered and displayed beautifully in our dining room. Afterwards Margaret stated that, after such hard work, they all deserved a glass of wine and so- the ladies enjoyed a glass of red and white wine in the garden soaking up in the sunrays!

Celebrating India Independence Day

Here in Bryn Ivor we cherish our staff, several of whom come from different parts of the world. We wanted to ensure that our staff members from India felt appreciated and valued, so we organized a series of meaningful activities to honour their culture and traditions.

The day began with a delightful cooking presentation, where we made Indian Potato dip and enjoyed it with chapatti. Our residents, Bob and Mair, enthusiastically joined in and helped with the preparations. Later Nurse Divya, the head of the Stratton community, demonstrated the art of wearing a sari, a beautiful traditional Indian attire, with the assistance of Sophia, our Activities Coordinator.

We were also treated to delicious Indian snacks generously provided by Divya and her husband, which the residents savoured while watching an enlightening documentary about India. The cultural immersion continued with heart-warming musical performances by the children of Boban, our employee from India. One of the children played the Indian national anthem on the piano, while the other sang a beautiful Indian song. To conclude the day, residents and staff had the opportunity to get henna tattoos done by Amira.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Divya, Jubin, Boban, Rohan, and all the children who brightened our day with their presence. We feel incredibly privileged to have shared in the beauty and richness of Indian culture with our residents.

Lunch At The Garden Centre

This week at Bryn Ivor some of our residents took a trip to the local garden centre to pick up some items for our gardens spaces and also to enjoy a spot of lunch.

Supporting residents to enjoy outings, shopping, meals out and other trips is a key aspect of the weekly activities calendar and our wider life enrichment program. Please feel free to drop in to our home to learn more.

Picnic At The Newport Wetlands

What a fantastic picnic we enjoyed this week at the Wetlands at Newport.

Newport Wetlands is a National Nature Reserve with many acres of reed beds and wetlands crossed by easy to navigate paths. A wide range of bird species use the reed beds and mudflats to shelter

Regular visits to local attractions, popping out for coffee, pub lunches, mini-bus trips, picnics and other outings are key parts of our life enrichment program and feature often on our weekly activity calendar.

At Bryn Ivor we support and encourage our residents to continue doing the things they love whilst also making new friends and exploring new adventures.

Visit from George our Dog Competition Winner

We had a pawtastic morning with our adorable furry friends, Mollie and George. These two cuties paid us a visit as George was the winner of our dog photography competition. They spent time with the residents, giving out cuddles and plenty of unexpected licks and tail wags. George was a natural in front of the camera, and we're pretty sure he's going to share his prize with Mollie. Huge thanks to their owners, Sharon and Elfed, for bringing them over!
