Activities at Caldy Manor Care Home

Residents are overjoyed at Caldy Manor care home in Caldy, as Barchester Healthcare has implemented a visiting suite for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones for the autumn and winter seasons in addition to the outdoor visiting that has been on offer for those able for many months.

Balancing resident wellbeing and safety is at the forefront of Barchester Healthcare’s thinking and they understand how important it is for residents and their family and friends to be able to spend time together in the safest way possible.

There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment by Barchester Healthcare, who run Caldy Manor care home. It was welcome news for their residents and family and friends as we enter the colder season meaning catch-ups can continue to take place, instead of, or in addition to, outdoor visiting already offered for those able.

Staff at Barchester’s Caldy Manor Residential care home, in Caldy were delighted to be invited to have the vaccination at Clatterbridge hospital which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

General Manager, Hannah Roberts said: “We’ve had a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel.  Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”

 “I am so pleased to be given the vaccine alongside my colleagues.  It will help to keep our residents safe, and is the first step in getting things back to normal and having a buzz of visitors in the home once again.”

Residents at Caldy Manor had a radiant day as they celebrated the Hindu festival of Diwali, popularly known as the ‘festival of lights’.  They enjoyed a mouth-watering curry at lunchtime prepared by the homes hospitality team and listened to music to get them ready for an afternoon of Diwali crafts. They made Rangoli designs with coloured sand and decorated their fireplace with lights. Everyone had a great time learning about other cultures and celebrations.

Residents of Caldy Manor support many charities, both local and international.   Residents have been busy packing shoe boxes with gifts for children who wouldn’t normally receive anything.   They have made cards during their popular arts and craft sessions to go with the shoe boxes. They were so happy to have completed 20 boxes!

Caldy Manor care home in Caldy recently presented local District Nurses with knitted poppies ready for Remembrance Sunday. The homes activities coordinator, Debbie Thomas has been knitting the poppies over several weeks.

Residents were happy to help support the project and chose the District Nurses as a worthy recipient of the poppies.  Joan Neal, Resident, said “The nurses are so kind when they visit me and nothing is too much trouble for them. We wanted them to know how much we appreciate everything they do for us”.

Residents recently took part in Oktoberfest 2020. We watched last year’s event on YouTube and enjoyed some German themed snacks prepared by our Head Chef. We had a fun afternoon together sharing stories and enjoying the music .
