Activities at The Cedars Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lorraine Mounter

Activity Coordinator

Hello. My name is Lorraine and I love working with the residents at Cedars.  I started as a carer and then joined the activities team.  I love crafting and so this job is ideal as I can look after the residents, whilst we have fun, laughter and create new things together. I find it very rewarding to see the residents happy, smiling and enjoying their day.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, gardening and crafting.  I also have a horse and I look after my granddaughter.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

National Bingo Day

National Bingo Day is a day dedicated to celebrating the great game of bingo, wherever you play, however you play. Bingo!

Bingo is popular all over the world, here in the UK and also in America where the first National Bingo Day started. We have no idea when it started, how it started or how the date for the first National Bingo Day was chosen, despite trawling through many Google searches.

What we do know is that the date of 27th June was chosen in the United States and in recent years has become the recognised date for the event. Despite the huge popularity of Bingo in the UK however, we have never formally recognised it here.

In recent years, several key bingo operators in the UK have started to make reference to the date existing in the USA and have even run special events on the day, but this is the extent of the celebration on these shores.

Until now that is!

From 2021 onwards National Bingo Day has been formally recognised in the UK. A time for everyone to join together and celebrate all things bingo: fun, games, friends, community and winning! 27 and 06 are set to become the most important numbers in bingo!

At Cedars we are celebrating by holding an Animal themed Bingo!

'Take your dog to work' day

Here at Cedars, we welcome all types of different animals, but a particular favourite of the residents and staff is a good old pooch.  We have a dog station with water and treats!

Here are just a few favourites of ours that have been in.

Bee Happy!

On Monday evening we welcomed residents, their family members, and friends from the community to a wonderful presentation from Bees and Botanicals; a local couple from Lover.

We all learnt something new about bees, drank Prosecco and Elderflower Mojitos and ate fabulous homemade cupcakes.

Our raffle for ‘The bumblebee charity’ raised over £60! Thank you to everyone who got tickets and we hope you love your prizes.

Our residents absolutely loved it!

Brenda said, “It’s so nice to do something different now and again.”

Pedal Event

Thursday saw the return of The Cedars Pedal Event! After the success last year, our residents were super excited to have another go! Some of them we just couldn’t get to come off! Roars of laughter could be heard from the other side of the forest!

The sun was shining and the tea, cake and goodies were all there for everyone to enjoy!

We welcomed our sister home Milford House Care Home - Barchester Healthcare and other members of the community to come and join in the fun too!

We just want to say a big “thank you” to everyone at Pedal, Landford cycles and everyone that came to support us. We are so grateful for your time and effort and making such a wonderful event.

What a wonderful day!

National Biscuit Day

We had a wonderful time reminiscing about biscuits from our childhood.  It brought back lots of memories.  Our residents particularly enjoyed sampling all the delicious biscuits from the wide selection including custard creams, jammy dodgers, fig rolls, pink wafers and lemon puffs to name but a few…
