Activities at Chalfont Lodge Care Home

Chalfont Lodge is a large care home and we have a diverse range of groups and events to ensure that everyone feels welcome and included. In the Lifestyle team we work hard to create a sense of community and ensure there is always someone to talk to and something to do.

Our residents help us to plan the monthly lifestyle programme, making sure that everyone has something they like, enabling people to keep up with life long hobbies or pick up new ones. We have long term projects like our summer parties, car shows, BBQs, craft fairs, Christmas shows to mention a few and residents can be as involved as they would like in all stages of the planning or just come along and enjoy on the day.

We love going out on trips, to lunch, shopping or to socialise with other local groups, we also have many people who come into visit us with church services, music, talks and support for our bigger events.

We have a fantastic team of staff and every department is involved in making sure our residents get the most out of living here. We have a brilliant music therapist who works her magic 3 days a week, running group and individual sessions. Our Physiotherapy team keep everyone fit and active, working with us to make sure everyone has access to sports and team games.

We have a full programme groups, events and clubs but none of it would be possible without our residents and their families, we all work together to make this a home from home and to keep laughter and friendship at the heart of what we do.

Alex Perkins & Louise Doyle

Activities Team

Hello, I’m Alex the Activities Lead at Chalfont Lodge, working with me is Louise Doyle. I've worked at Chalfont Lodge for 8 years now. I originally started off as a volunteer and fell in love with the residents, families and staff. Since then, I've been an Activity assist, Activity Coordinator and now the head of the department! Activities are my passion and I love creating an environment where all of the residents can thrive and do what they love!

Life at Chalfont Lodge Care Home

St. George's Day

In honour of the patron Saint of England - St George, residents at the home came together and thought of a lovely idea to make a poem to mark this National Day. Planning and ideas were given around the group and a poem was made called

"An Ode to Saint George"

Today is St George's Day, we remember him with pride,

let's celebrate in our way, or whatever you decide

The dragon did not hide,

so taking his trusty sword, the dragon he did slay,

and as it lay upon the ground, his life's blood ebbed away.

Pets As Therapy

Today we had a lovely visit from one of our furry volunteers!

P.A.T Dog Brontë comes and visits Chalfont Lodge every other Wednesday for lots of cuddles with individuals in their bedrooms.

Therapy dogs are sometimes called "comfort dogs." They support a person's mental health by providing attention and comfort. Their sweet demeanors and unconditional love may have a therapeutic benefit to all!

Have a hoppy Easter!

We celebrated Easter in style with a whole host of themed activities and egg-cellent entertainment.

We had some lovely little helpers come in for the day and deliver Easter Eggs to all of the residents followed by an Easter Egg Hunt for all the children.

Over the Easter holiday our talented chefs prepared delicious feasts for all to enjoy, from carrot soups, roasted lamb to tasty chocolate bunny cupcakes and a delicious Easter cake for everyone to enjoy.

As always, we’ve had an amazing time.

Good Friday Fun

Residents had a great afternoon, choosing different decorations and flowers to make their own Easter Wreaths in the shapes of Easter themed items. These were then put around the home to spread some happiness!

Easter Bunny at Wexham Park Hospital

Say Hello to our very own Chalfont Easter Bunny who has been visiting the Children’s Ward and Clinic at Wexham Hospital. Together with Tesco of Brent Cross and other stores Barchester has been able to deliver Easter Eggs and Teddies to many poorly children thanks to kind donations from residents, relatives, staff, community and the local shoppers.

Thank you to everyone that has helped donate which spread happiness to our local children.

Magic Table

Chalfont Lodge Care Home in Chalfont St Peter has brought a bit of magic to residents by providing a ‘Magic Table 360’ as a way to improve residents’ quality of life.

The Magic Table 360 uses interactive games to connect residents with staff and with each other, and research shows it improves the wellbeing of people living with dementia. Using interactive light projections, the Magic Table 360, which can be played independently or in a group, stimulates movement by inviting participants to take part in all sorts of different fun activities such as popping bubbles, playing the piano, colouring in pictures, sweeping leaves or interacting playfully with fish. Games are rich in colour, movement and detail, and allow people of all ages to play in a safe and comfortable environment.

The benefits of the Magic Table 360 has shown to improve mood and behaviours especially across the mid-to-late stages of dementia, greater physical, social and cognitive activity, reduction in withdrawn-like symptoms, weight gain and positive impacts on relationships with care staff, friends and family.

Staff at Chalfont Lodge have found the Magic Table to be a huge success with residents.  Raj Boodhoo, General Manager of the home, said: “We have seen fantastic results with the Magic Table, our residents love to play the fun, interactive games.  It is great that people can play as a group, or on their own if they prefer – the table is really flexible and it’s portable so we can take it to residents’ rooms if they prefer.”

Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
