Activities at Chalfont Lodge Care Home

Chalfont Lodge is a large care home and we have a diverse range of groups and events to ensure that everyone feels welcome and included. In the Lifestyle team we work hard to create a sense of community and ensure there is always someone to talk to and something to do.

Our residents help us to plan the monthly lifestyle programme, making sure that everyone has something they like, enabling people to keep up with life long hobbies or pick up new ones. We have long term projects like our summer parties, car shows, BBQs, craft fairs, Christmas shows to mention a few and residents can be as involved as they would like in all stages of the planning or just come along and enjoy on the day.

We love going out on trips, to lunch, shopping or to socialise with other local groups, we also have many people who come into visit us with church services, music, talks and support for our bigger events.

We have a fantastic team of staff and every department is involved in making sure our residents get the most out of living here. We have a brilliant music therapist who works her magic 3 days a week, running group and individual sessions. Our Physiotherapy team keep everyone fit and active, working with us to make sure everyone has access to sports and team games.

We have a full programme groups, events and clubs but none of it would be possible without our residents and their families, we all work together to make this a home from home and to keep laughter and friendship at the heart of what we do.

We loved Friday Funday!

Traditionally Chalfont Lodge holds a sports day outside in the extensive gardens, however this year we decided to bring the fun indoors!

Different games for carers to boost their moral and to have fun was the order of the day. Ever mindful to maintain social distancing all the party favourites were enjoyed including musical chairs, a balloon race, and blind fold obstacle to test team work skills!

Plenty of prizes were available, including colourful rosettes for winning teams so everyone joined in. Mugs with '1 in a Million' for carers and a huge hamper for the winning care unit were awarded by our physiotherapy team, Mansukh and Pedro who organised the day

The day came to an end with a show by the team encouraged to flaunt their talent by doing whatever they wanted - we had no idea our staff included such talented singers, dancers and jugglers!

Residents designed their own royal birthday cake fit for HRH!

On Saturday June 13th, the Queen celebrated her second, and official birthday. But there was an extra incentive to join in the festivities at Chalfont Lodge Care Centre in Chalfont St Peter, as residents were asked to design a birthday cake in honour of Her Majesty’s birthday.

The winning cake design was then whipped into reality by the homes’ chef, Grzegorz Gadziala and enjoyed by residents and staff on the Queen’s special day.

Residents were also treated to afternoon tea with a royal theme, prepared by the hospitality team. The Queen’s birthday was marked with a small celebration at Windsor Castle, where the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are staying in isolation.

Raj Boodhoo, General Manager said: “Residents absolutely loved the idea of having their cake brought to life, and were very happy to celebrate our longest reigning monarch. Here at Chalfont Lodge we are continually adapting, and finding new ways to make sure every effort is focused on creating an enjoyable environment for all of our residents, whilst adhering to social distancing advice.”

Birthday balloons and bubbles!

This week we celebrated Mel's 80th birthday - looking sensational she had cards and gifts from the home and friends.

Together with residents and the staff she enjoyed a delicious homemade birthday cake

Carers week celebration lunch

Chalfont Lodge care centre held a week of celebrations to thank care staff at the home, who make a real difference to the lives of those in their care.

On Wednesday whole home, residents and staff enjoyed a delicious buffet luncheon prepared by head chef Greg and his team. Cards of appreciation were handed out and a letter of thanks from the South Managing Director read to everyone by Raj.

Carers Week is an annual event to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges carers face, and recognising the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK, which now, is more important than ever. Carers have a vital job in the care of residents throughout the home, and form very special bonds with the people they look after. They are the day-to-day face of our home, working directly with residents and families to ensure the very best quality care and support is given.

Raj Boodhoo, General Manager said: “I am very proud of the carers at Chalfont Lodge. In light of the current situation our carers have continued to work tirelessly to provide high quality, personalised care to the people living in our homes, and often go above and beyond the call of duty, which has a huge impact on people’s lives. They offer friendship and comfort to residents and their relatives, during what can be a very emotional time. We appreciate the work they do all year round, and especially in these unprecedented times”.

Kindness is key during Mental Health Awareness Week

Staff and residents at Chalfont Lodge care centre in Chalfont St Peter, showed support of Mental Health Awareness week 2020, spreading some positivity and joy, as the theme this year was ‘Kindness’.

Running from 18th - 24th May, Mental Health Awareness Week encouraged us to start conversations around mental health, sharing our experiences and stories, promoting an overall healthier understanding of mental health issues, especially at this uncertain time.

Throughout the week, Chalfont Lodge residents and staff supported the initiative by cups of tea and virtual catch ups with family and friends using Skype and Facetime. Residents were also touched to receive messages and prayers from the local community who would under normal circumstances be visiting the home on a weekly basis.

Raj Boodhoo, General Manager at the home, said: “Ensuring residents feel engaged and connected within our local community, and with family and friends is extremely important to their mental health, especially in these unprecedented times. Residents are really enjoying video calls, chatting about daily life on our iPad is certainly something new for many residents, they love to see their family and friends in their own homes all over the world. Here at Chalfont Lodge, we are continually adapting, and finding new ways to make sure every effort is focused on creating an enjoyable environment for all of our residents, adhering to social distancing advice.”

John, resident at Chalfont Lodge said; “The video calls are just wonderful, it’s so nice to see family and friends, it feels like you’re in the same room. It really does help.”
