Activities at Chalfont Lodge Care Home

Chalfont Lodge is a large care home and we have a diverse range of groups and events to ensure that everyone feels welcome and included. In the Lifestyle team we work hard to create a sense of community and ensure there is always someone to talk to and something to do.

Our residents help us to plan the monthly lifestyle programme, making sure that everyone has something they like, enabling people to keep up with life long hobbies or pick up new ones. We have long term projects like our summer parties, car shows, BBQs, craft fairs, Christmas shows to mention a few and residents can be as involved as they would like in all stages of the planning or just come along and enjoy on the day.

We love going out on trips, to lunch, shopping or to socialise with other local groups, we also have many people who come into visit us with church services, music, talks and support for our bigger events.

We have a fantastic team of staff and every department is involved in making sure our residents get the most out of living here. We have a brilliant music therapist who works her magic 3 days a week, running group and individual sessions. Our Physiotherapy team keep everyone fit and active, working with us to make sure everyone has access to sports and team games.

We have a full programme groups, events and clubs but none of it would be possible without our residents and their families, we all work together to make this a home from home and to keep laughter and friendship at the heart of what we do.

Life at Chalfont Lodge Care Home

Host Kelsey worthy winner of employee of the month

We celebrated with our lovely host Kelsey winning Employee of the month for January 2020.

She won with a landslide of votes, two of the voters were residents Jack L and his partner Pat, who said that Kelsey always goes above and beyond in her role.

It was recently Pats birthday and Jack used to always get her a Birthday cake. Kelsey (even though she’s never baked in her life) decided to make Pat a homemade birthday cake from Jack and herself. Pat said, ‘I couldn’t believe it, it was so kind and really made my day special and it was amazing considering it was her first go at baking!’

A special thank you to Kelsey for making the difference to our residents on a daily basis.

Memory Lane Community celebrate 100% success

Chalfont Lodge in Chalfont St Peter is delighted to have achieved accreditation for a new standard of dementia care developed by dementia care specialists at Barchester Healthcare.

The 10-60-06 dementia programme was developed and trialled by the Dementia Team at Barchester Healthcare, a care provider with over 200 homes across the country. It will replace the company’s current dementia care programme in order to ensure the care services provided Barchester’s Memory Lane Communities for people living with dementia are the best in the sector.

General Manager Raj Boodhoo, said: “We are delighted to have achieved the 10-60-06 dementia care accreditation. The changes we have made to our Memory Lane Community and the services we provide there have made a big difference to people’s lives and wellbeing. Both staff and residents’ family members have been especially delighted with the impact of the improved training programme. It is noticeable that people are being supported in a more person-centred way and staff have embedded what they learned into their everyday work.”

Supporting the community with falls prevention and awareness

Our in house physiotherapy department, led by Mansukh Chander, physiotherapist In neurological rehabilitation, held a very well attended Falls Prevention and Awareness seminar on Friday. In response to requests the session included advice and tips on how to maintain independence and reduce balance problems followed by delicious homemade refreshments.

Guests included staff from neighbouring residential care homes and the local community. Feedback was positive 'the session was very informative, a follow up class would be helpful' said JR, so we are working on this for later in the year.
