Activities at Chalfont Lodge Care Home

Chalfont Lodge is a large care home and we have a diverse range of groups and events to ensure that everyone feels welcome and included. In the Lifestyle team we work hard to create a sense of community and ensure there is always someone to talk to and something to do.

Our residents help us to plan the monthly lifestyle programme, making sure that everyone has something they like, enabling people to keep up with life long hobbies or pick up new ones. We have long term projects like our summer parties, car shows, BBQs, craft fairs, Christmas shows to mention a few and residents can be as involved as they would like in all stages of the planning or just come along and enjoy on the day.

We love going out on trips, to lunch, shopping or to socialise with other local groups, we also have many people who come into visit us with church services, music, talks and support for our bigger events.

We have a fantastic team of staff and every department is involved in making sure our residents get the most out of living here. We have a brilliant music therapist who works her magic 3 days a week, running group and individual sessions. Our Physiotherapy team keep everyone fit and active, working with us to make sure everyone has access to sports and team games.

We have a full programme groups, events and clubs but none of it would be possible without our residents and their families, we all work together to make this a home from home and to keep laughter and friendship at the heart of what we do.

Alex Perkins & Louise Doyle

Activities Team

Hello, I’m Alex the Activities Lead at Chalfont Lodge, working with me is Louise Doyle. I've worked at Chalfont Lodge for 8 years now. I originally started off as a volunteer and fell in love with the residents, families and staff. Since then, I've been an Activity assist, Activity Coordinator and now the head of the department! Activities are my passion and I love creating an environment where all of the residents can thrive and do what they love!

International Week of Happiness at work

“International Week of Happiness at work

International Week of Happiness at Work was the inspiration of Maartje Wolff and Fennande van der Meulen, two Dutch women who started the company Happy Office in 2015. The day’s ultimate goal is to increase the value that we place on kindness and to make it a bigger part of our daily lives.

Everyone at Chalfont has been making lots of kind gestures to spread happiness across the residents and staff during the week.
We asked all of our staff & residents for tips and tricks on how they stay happy each day. We also made ‘Happiness Trees’ and asked residents to write down compliments to the staff! Everyone has had a lovely week and we all been smiling a lot more.”

Letter from Windsor Castle!

It all started with a birthday cake for the Queen’s 94th, our residents designed and decorated an amazing cake which won Barchester’s ‘Bake a cake fit for a Queen’ competition. To celebrate their success the residents decided to tell HRH about the cake and with the help of music therapist, Louise Hamer, wrote ‘an Ode to Queen Elizabeth II’.

The words were set to the tune of ‘favourite things’ from the Sound of Music which residents know so well. With Louise playing, a resident sang and the video was sent off to Windsor Castle!

To everyone’s great delight a letter of reply was received from one of the Ladies-in-Waiting thanking the residents and team, it includes: ‘The queen is most grateful for your message of loyal support and good wishes’.

Beautifully framed the letter is now on display at Chalfont Lodge

Kindness in our home

We all appreciate there have been anxious times over the last few months for many residents, relatives and staff. Being ready to talk and reassure residents is so important and something the team do every day – reach out to someone and help them feel safe, it will make their day

Sports Day Winners!

Residents and staff all enjoyed another sports day at Chalfont Lodge, all carefully planned and organized by our physio department headed up by Mansukh Chander. An annual event which normally includes relatives and visitors we did keep the day exclusively for residents and staff this year however this did not diminish the fun and competitive spirit from everyone who took part!

Worthy winners received medals and prizes, well done and a BIG thank you to the physio team for putting on another great day,

Our beautiful lake

On a hot afternoon what better way to cool off than a dip in the water? Well our lake needs regular maintenance so the team, including General Manager Raj, all pitched in to tidy the reeds and plants to help the local wildlife flourish. With the residents watching, and joining in with words of encouragement from the terrace and conservatory it was an entertaining afternoon for everyone!
