Activities at Chalfont Lodge Care Home

Chalfont Lodge is a large care home and we have a diverse range of groups and events to ensure that everyone feels welcome and included. In the Lifestyle team we work hard to create a sense of community and ensure there is always someone to talk to and something to do.

Our residents help us to plan the monthly lifestyle programme, making sure that everyone has something they like, enabling people to keep up with life long hobbies or pick up new ones. We have long term projects like our summer parties, car shows, BBQs, craft fairs, Christmas shows to mention a few and residents can be as involved as they would like in all stages of the planning or just come along and enjoy on the day.

We love going out on trips, to lunch, shopping or to socialise with other local groups, we also have many people who come into visit us with church services, music, talks and support for our bigger events.

We have a fantastic team of staff and every department is involved in making sure our residents get the most out of living here. We have a brilliant music therapist who works her magic 3 days a week, running group and individual sessions. Our Physiotherapy team keep everyone fit and active, working with us to make sure everyone has access to sports and team games.

We have a full programme groups, events and clubs but none of it would be possible without our residents and their families, we all work together to make this a home from home and to keep laughter and friendship at the heart of what we do.

Hello, I’m Alex the Activities Lead at Chalfont Lodge, working with me is Louise Doyle. I've worked at Chalfont Lodge for 8 years now. I originally started off as a volunteer and fell in love with the residents, families and staff. Since then, I've been an Activity assist, Activity Coordinator and now the head of the department! Activities are my passion and I love creating an environment where all of the residents can thrive and do what they love!

Life at Chalfont Lodge Care Home

Christmas Spirit

Christmas Spirit

Chalfont Lodge got in the Christmas spirit on 13th December with the help of Beaconsfield High School pupils, who amazingly delivered presents to every single resident, continuing a Christmas tradition between the home and school.

Residents were deeply moved when 26 of the girls came to personally give the gifts to residents. The students and teachers took the time to open gifts with all 94 of them, explaining that each gift box was made up by 6 individual pupils.

Christmas can often be a lonely time for older people and this is was fantastic sprinkling of Christmas spirit.

A visit from Santa

A visit from Santa

Santa came to Chalfont Lodge to bring a bit of Christmas spirit just before Christmas Day.

It was really lovely to be a part of those special magical moments when a child meets Santa for the first time. All the children had a lovely time as well as our residents when Santa went around the home wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas.

U3A Singing Group Performance

U3A Singing Group Performance

Many thanks to the Chalfont’s U3A Old Time Music Hall Singing Group who came to perform on Wednesday 5th of December, they started our Christmas celebrations off in the most wonderfully festive way. Everyone in the group is a volunteer and we cannot thank them enough for the joy that they bring when they perform at Chalfont Lodge.

Craft Fair

On Saturday 24th November, we held a Christmas Craft Fair at Chalfont Lodge. We had been working with the residents for months to prepare handmade items to sell.

We made lavender bags with lavender grown in the garden, homemade soap, Christmas potpourri, chocolate cones & little Christmas centrepieces. We had a raffle, which is always popular, and a tombola. We also had a stall from The Body Shop and Paul Burke, who keeps bees and sells honey & hand-turned wooden gifts.

It was an amazing day! We were very well-supported by residents, their families and friends, and we were all left feeling very festive. The mulled wine and homemade cakes were delicious & we sold nearly everything we made!

What a start to our Christmas season; we raised over £800, which we will be spending on garden projects next year.

Many thanks to everyone who helped – we couldn’t have done it without all the support.

Great British Care Awards 2018

Great British Care Awards 2018

The 10th November was a special day for Chalfont Lodge; we were regional finalists in 2 categories of the Great British Care Awards 2018. Diana Nica, our Clinical Lead, was a finalist for the 'Good Nurse Award' and everyone was included in the 'Care Home Team Award'.

The event in London was attended by some staff, and we also had a party to celebrate at Chalfont for those who couldn’t go. Unfortunately we didn’t win either category this time, but it was lovely to be recognised by a national award body.

Well done & thanks for all the continued hard work!
